Star Wars Mod for the Egosoft X3 series game, specifically Albion Prelude. This mod adds High quality ships, locations and sounds, as close as possible to the original films, something most people seem to loose focus of.

This thread is an attempt at getting those with problems getting the game to run correctly. For the sake of simplicity, I'm skipping adding further mods so we can get people up and running first-most.

1) Starting from scratch, make sure X3 Terran Conflict and X3 Albion Prelude are both uninstalled in Steam.

2) Go into the SteamApps folder themselves to delete the folder remnants of those two games (so it's all squeaky clean!).

If you are like me and installed Steam and those games into the default directory, it should be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common"

3) Have Steam install X3 Albion Prelude ONLY at this point. If you try to play X3TC with this mod installed, you'll get some Star wars content into your X3TC game (music only from what I've seen, but I may have missed something!). If you install X3TC AFTER this mod, well, I'd expect more problems, but I'm not about to attempt it myself just to see. >.<

4) Grab 7-zip for this particular mod, if for no other reason, you can use the program to "test" the X3AP Star Wars mod archive to verify it's data integrity. I only use 7-zip for this mod alone, and WinRAR for everything else, personally.

5) If 7-zip cannot verify or has a problem with the mod you downloaded, try again. >.< Otherwise, continue onto next step.

6) With the mod archive open in 7-zip, go into the X3 Terran Conflict subfolder so you can see the directories "addon", "mov", "reshade", and several others, and drag then all (11 objects as of 1.0a) into your version of the game folder, which in my case, is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\x3 terran conflict"

7) Overwrite anything within, then load up the X3AP.exe directly or use the shortcut. *I would suggest to "test" the installation to run the game windowed mode (with a lower resolution than your desktop) to check and see if everything is running correctly while not blocking out your desktop. Until you can verify it's running good, leave all the settings in their default state. EAX, for example, crashes my game immediately, ;)

Troubleshooting -

A) Mik did say that some were having problems with the new reshade, if that occurs simply go to the root X3TC directory and rename the d3d9.dll (to oldd3d9.dll or d3d9.old for examples) and that should turn it off. That way if you want you can troubleshoot it later without having to reinstall. :)

I hope this helps anyone who needs it! -,~

Well its definite that its the TShips file in 09.CAT thats causing the problem, I just cant understand why its working for most people but crashing others.

Hmmm ...... could it have do with the "empty slots" for other unfinished ships you made?

Possible but what's baffling is that the mod works for some and not for others, Usually a CTD before entry into menu happens because of a line error in a ships scene, but then I should also be getting the crash.

Is your AP updated to 3.3? I think mine is still 3.2, maybe its the people with 3.3 that are getting the crash.

Running 3.3 here, sorry. Hmm... language? Wasn't there a problem with an earlier version that had something to do with what language you were playing with? Or am I thinking of another mod..... Damnit, I'm getting old. >.<

Ye the language can be an issue sometimes.

But these peeps have it installed in Eng.

Seems "FenderVender" has found the problem, uploading patch

Did you patch it to 1.0.5?
I'm uploading 1.0.6 now anyway

I know this is probably outdated by now but I can't seem to get the mod to work, I make a clean install of the game and I transfer all files from the 1.0.6. zip into the main game folder and it doesn't work, the game always starts up vanilla besides a few loading screens here and there star wars themed and some music. Any idea what could be going wrong?

When you copy the contents over, does ask you to overwrite folders?

May 27 2018 Anchor

same problem does not even start the game

May 28 2018 Anchor

Anyone using GOG version (that has some start issues?) If so then Mik hasn't figured out a way around the start problem.

1 delete the whole x3 folder in steamapps

2 uinistall from steam

3 reinstall x3ap ONLY

4 Try running vanilla X3AP to see if it works (load game, start new game, fly around for a minute)

5 If it works, make sure you first have 1.0.6 Alpha Core Repack as primary installation package (as of May 28, 2018) and use top instructions to install that pack

6 Follow with newest update (1.0.6 to 1.0.7 patch as of May 28, 2018) for update fixes

7 let us know if it works or not, and if not, what happens :)

Hi Vanguardian1,

I've followed all the steps but when it comes to launching the game (in windowed mode and others; it still crashes either way), I see the opening splash (with the Star Destroyer) for a second, followed by a music cue then it crashes. Then a crash report/mdmp file appears.

Please help me! I bought this game because of this mod and I can't wait to get started.

The vanilla game works fine but its after I overwrite the files it crashes. I've deleted, uninstalled then reinstalled (followed your steps verbatim but to no avail).

EDIT: I got the mod to work by removing the ReShade.Fx file.
