...in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.. Men of the Emperor: Burning Horizon hopes to bring the brutal, grim, dark and wonderful universe of Warhammer 40,000 we all love to the Men of War real-time strategy game franchise. With a small but dedicated team, we hope to bring as much of WH40K into the game as we can.
The Destroyer (Tank Hunter) is a relic among Imperial Guard forces. This is due to the highly advanced, and subsequently complicated, weapon it mounts, the Laser Destroyer. It is based on the Leman Russ Battle Tank chassis but lacks the normal turret and replaces the defensive hull weapon with the main Laser Destroyer. It is most effective against enemy armour and as such is usually held at the rear battle lines where it is used as a form of sniper tank, as the Laser Destroyer has a very long range. The Destroyer, due to its old design, uses the Mars Alpha pattern hull modified by removing the turret ring and replacing it with the main crew hatch and both forward and rear maintenance access hatches. Also, the vehicle gun sight is mounted on the front and is accessible by both the commander and gunner. The gun itself is mounted left of centre and has a limited traverse mount, reducing its efficiency but complimenting its stability, this perfectly suits the sniper-tank role. It still retains the same engine, transmission and drive train as the standard Mars Alpha pattern.

Holy Mother of Mercy! This is a sweet model!
This tank will be fun
Would it be possible to make this tank less visible than other tanks, if its stands behind cover like trees or bushes? I mean not to make him invisible but to give him the ability to sneak a bit.
Dont know if you know the Gaunts Ghosts books but in one of them such a tank emerges and Dan Abnett (the author) describes it very cool as something like a sneaky sniper tank.
Sorry for DP but I forgett something. ;)
I suggest this cuz this tank needs some advantage over the other Leman Russ tanks since he lacks the additional guns other Leman Russ have.
Plus it would be just cool to have such a tank... oh did I say this already?
It shouldn't need any additional advantage, other than the fact it can probably engage from a greater range than most. So if its not in the line of sight of a unit or firing its weapon it will most likely be far back enough to stay hidden. I guess it will best be deployed in combined arms tactics (as with most units) so forward units can reveal targets for the Laser Distroyer to "snipe". Basicly the role of a typical tank hunter.
The Destroyer is essentially the perfect sniper tank, it has a maximum speed of ~36-50kph, excellent accuracy, range and can make the Vanquisher look like a popgun in terms of AT firepower.
The only flaws are it's lack of secondary armaments besides a pintle-mount.
Will it have a long recharge time for the main weapon (relatively speaking)?
most likely, it will 1 shot almost any tank most of the time so it would need a long recharge time to balance it out.
how long that time is will be decided once we get it in-game for further testing.
Or make it as fragile as a Tau in melee
And now we need the thunderer.
i'll probably end up making it anyway, but it isn't a high priority to be honest. it doesn't have any advantages over the Leman Russ Demolisher which has the same Demolisher cannon plus side sponsons and a hull weapon(and possible pintle Hstubber)
so you're better off taking a LR demolisher than the Thunderer.
but i might make it anyway just for the sake of it being there.
Plus it could be used for the chaos renegades.
that's always an option.
Love it perfect defensive unit.
Will it have reinforced front armor? or equal to the russ.
it'll have slightly thicker armor than the Russ' on the front
and i could make side skirts for it too but i'm not sure if thats possible fluff wise.
Favorite tank ever!
The first tank-destroyer of the whole imperium XD
