Most of the dev-team doesn't have lot of time (or no time at all), some are busy with school / work, other with life problems... In fact, the progress is really slow, since only the menu selection progressed (code side only). Coders got all the work from Ramu, a coder which helped us a few time ago and which isn't available now. More details on the Team status bellow.
Another important fact : we're now trying to contact Nintendo to know what they really think about us and if they want to let us making this. Lot of people (public) asked if Nintendo agree with MKS, if they won't close the mod, then we decided to talk with them, trying to finally get an answer.
We're doing this not for shutting down the mod, but just for not losing all this time making models, music and other things for deleting them later because of an eventually negative answer from Nintendo.
If Nintendo are OK, we continue.
If Nintendo disagree, we DO NOT close the mod. We'll just delete everything using Nintendo and Mario theme. That means we'll have to make new models of original characters, new music, modified maps... It won't be Mario Kart Source anymore of course, but an original racing game inspired from Mario Kart. The code can be used, fortunately.
If Nintendo doesn't answer... We don't know yet what we well do. Probably sending another email on another address. We'll try everything to get a contact with them.
We already sent an email to them recently. We're now waiting an answer.
About the Team status:
Spike and OneEyed (coders) are too much busy with school work. Same for Klusark (coder), and will probably quit us.
Ramu (another coder) has still problems in his life (about his new flat not achieved) so he can't work. He gave us all his code about items at least a few days ago.
That means no coders (except Dragon) can work, which blocks music / sound work (sounders need to hear their sounds in game), and limit models and maps work (no new entities, no models in game without code).
Potteh, the new UI artist, has some life problem (he wants to keep details private). He was working on the menu selection design, so no progress on that too.
Wind (artist) is too busy with his school too. He also moved from Corsica to Marseille, which takes some extra time too. But he just got back his computer, so he may be present now.
TheSlaminJ (animator) isn't in the team anymore. But he's always providing us a SVN.
Chenapan (animator) may be available soon, but now, like others, school takes lot of time.
Gto47 (model / animator) hasn’t enough time now for MKS and another mod he was already working on before (+ school work), so he stopped working with us for now.
Sh4rk (modeler) is probably who have most free time.
Milky, Nova and Joey (sounds / music) are waiting code progress to get their sounds in game.
Then mapping section, KillerMapper, Dragon and Qmaster... KillerMapper and Dragon have some free time, also Dragon is coding too (character menu selection), but we need for maps entities and models... And textures too. Most of work which can be done is brushwork is almost done for most of current maps. Qmaster, our latest coder, was busy with school and other projects; but he got more free time recently.
We are really sorry for the lack of progress, I know how you can be disappointed (We are too, seeing how still the mod is after 5 years being on this project) but it's impossible to force everybody to work when there is no time for that. Remember that we’re not professional game makers, just fans who are trying to recreate this fabulous game on Source engine. We have studies, jobs and a life too, and we’re making this project on our free time.
Now we just hope that Nintendo will answer our mail and that people will be less busy as soon as possible.
