The L.U.R.K. team wants to provide the best possible experience from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, we don't plan to skew the scope of this game, because I, like many others, fell in love with the game because of the story, the realistic gameplay, and the atmosphere. I plan to preserve and improve on that concept to the best of my abilities, and our team has vowed to do so as well. Which is why we took it upon ourselves to provide that experience. We want to fulfill a niche that's otherwise unfulfilled in the modding community. We want to bring as many features to Stalker without damaging or changing the original theme of the game. While improving upon that concept with features that were dropped off the development cycle from GSC, such as stealth AI, and a strong foundation for balance, as well as dynamic A-Life, and an unprecedented visual presentation that no other Stalker Overhaul can touch.
Texture all done
This looks excellent but I don't know if it really fits in with the Post-Soviet vibe of stalker, you know? It looks really great though. I personally think a more basic looking axe would be better, but that's just my opinion. My opinion isn't right, it's your mod and you're doing a fantastic job.
Fire axes are quite common, which I think fits very well with the scavenger aesthetic of the game.
I'm pretty sure the Fire Department in Pripyat left a couple behind.
Ex-Yugoslavia had fireaxes. Every fire department in the world has fireaxes. Maybe the design of the head of it is too western I guess.
I'm not suggesting that a fire axe is a bad idea, I think it is a really good one. I personally just think the handle and head of the axe seem a bit more modern and that an axe isn't really something that would be imported to the zone. I would image one could just be scavenged from the zone, since axes are after all big and heavy. Which is why I think a more basic looking axe would be better. Again, this is my opinion.
Yeah. I'd say the classic fireaxes are just like a narrow triangle on the head and a simple stick.
This really does look rather modern.
Dunno. Perhaps fire axes did look rather modern in the eighties?
it's not only the 80s though, it's also the soviet union. Most things were as simple as possible in the soviet union.
You seem to forget that fire fighters were IN Chernobyl, fighting to stop the melt down.
Where does a fireman go without his axe? no where.
A Variation of melee-styled weapons would be interesting to see in the Stalker world. Honestly, if a newbie stalker was too poor to afford a weapon or ammo wouldn't he need something to fall back on? Btw Nice model & Texture.
Yeah, nice texture :D
I agree with your point, though I think that a newbie STALKER never will get further than escape :D
Not to mention fighting Bloodsuckers would be a blast with this type of melee weapon :P
I agree with amisdaman. Typical american fire axe from my french point of view. A quick research on the ukrainian web sites show that they use a different gear. This one will sound strange in the zone, unless it's a spécial item with an "history".
Most major buildings would have one or many "пожарный щит" - a fire-fighting station; with shovels, axes, a poker, and buckets for sand/dirt. But the axes included would be short one-handed deals, not the one pictured above.

that fire axe not looking like from Ussr - it's so western-like. That's an item outta Zone for sure.
