FIXED - Patch installation error Thread - Ultimate Edition - HD Patch & Overhaul (EN/FR/DE) mod for Knights of Honor

First of all, thank you for this fantastic mod. Your efforts are much appreciated!

However, to get the mod to patch properly I had to do something which I haven't seen mentioned in either your STEAM guide or the Moddb page. Your STEAM page says "No error can happen" during the patch installation and if it does fail, "perhaps you are using a cracked version" but neither of these things were true for me. The reason the patch was failing is because there was a missing registry entry for the game. This is a known problem even with the official patch - the information I'm about to give all comes from another guide on STEAM on how to install the official 1.05 patch.

So, you've just downloaded Knights of Honor on STEAM and you want to apply the Ultimate Mod.

If you try to install the patch now, it will say "Installation not found" or something similar and won't install the patch properly. What you have to do is create a registry entry for the game.

1) Run the game at least once to make sure the registry entries are created

2) You should have something like this in the registry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Black Sea Studios\Knights of Honor]

"InstallDir"="c:\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\knights of honor"

But if you don't, you need to create it!

3) Open Notepad and copy and paste the following text:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Black Sea Studios\Knights of Honor]

"InstallDir"="d:\\games\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\knights of honor"

You MUST customize the "InstallDir" according to your own install path.

Save it as a .reg file and double click the resulting file to import the key to the registry.

You can now run the Ultimate Mod without errors!

HOWEVER:

You may find the game "still" doesn't work properly. This is what I then had to do:

Right-click on KoH.exe in the game's STEAM folder and select Compatibility tab

Run this program as Windows XP Service Pack 2

Disable display setting - tick this option

Run this program as admin - tick this option

This got everything working for me, using Windows 10, the default STEAM set-up and 1920 by 1080 resolution.

Once again, thanks for the mod and I hope this guide is useful for anyone else who runs into a similar problem with the patch installation.
