I just used the EP2 mod fix in this thread: Steamcommunity.com
I don't have to launch it form the SDK then, either.

@Dune_Jumper,

Thanks for writing this down.

I am aware of this forum, and I know it is possible to launch these game modifications, by doing several adjustments such as altering gameinfo.txt; extracting materials and other resources from VPKs.

The reasons and motives behind these patches of mine are the following:

- To provide an easier way for game players to play Source mods.

When using the typical method found on the thread, stated in your post, players have to take into account which engine branch the mod is running, which requires having 4 installed version of Source: Base 2006; 2007; both 2013 SP & MP. By contrast, having my method requires only to have both 2013 SP & MP installed (1 for the moment, since I only fix single player mods).

- To make these mods compatible with pipeline versions of HL2 and it's episodes.

- To give the opportunity to Linux, and other OS players to have the chance to play these mods. (This is why I release my sources).

About the fact that several Source mods can be launched with no problem, you are correct and I agree.

At some point, it is unknown if Valve will make any other future update on these games, and doing so could have repercussion on these mods, making players having to make other changes. By contrast, the singleplayer version of the Source SDK Base 2013 is pretty stable at that time, which, I believe is a better fit for these mods, at least those with singleplayer.

I do hope this clears a good amount of confusion. If not, feel free to send me a PM if you would like additional precision.

How are you doing this for all these old mods, I thought you had to be the original creator to upload downloads like this.

@TheRenegadist

I simply click on (+) Post download, then upload my patch. So far it works well, as I have been able to add downloads to several mod pages.

I was unable to do so on the City 14 mod page, in which I had to post my patch in the "Half-Life 2" download section. Then, it was moved to the mod's page.

If you do have other questions/request, please let me know.

Thank you for your interest.
