This mod started out as a compilation of all those other mods that add new styles to Jade Empire. Eventually I figured out how to add styles myself and added a few more. All in all there's around 40 styles now. 50 if you count weapon upgrades as well. Quite a lot of styles have been modified. Some have been re-balanced. To others I've added new effects. And some have been re-purposed entirely. But I didn't stop at adding and modding styles either. There are new gem armors, new techniques, new merchants, brand new concepts like specializations... I can say without the slightest bit of exaggeration, that this is the largest mod for Jade Empire out there. In fact: It is many times larger than all other mods combined and that is not just because it *contains* so many other mods. The last time I checked the codebase totaled to 25,000 lines. In other words: This mod is a complete overhaul.

Hi is there a way to make those styles that you can learn after battles a free? I dislike the idea that i have to buy those styles that i have "earned" in combat. I really like your mod and this is no big deal, but i would like to get those styles free that i have won in combat. Hope to see more from you in future and thanks for bringing me back to this awesome game.

Ps: I have some knowledge how to mod overdrive files so with instructions i can mod this myself.

The first version of my mod automatically gave you all the styles you had earned. That cluttered up the list of known styles quite badly. So I wanted to introduce an option for the player to say "no" to new styles. I also wanted to introduce a strategical component. The new styles do not cost all that much silver, but that they still require the player to ask himself: Do I really want that one? Especially in the beginning of the game, when the player is still quite cash-strapped.

But lately I've been wondering whether that early decision was really a good one... Maybe there are alternatives to the style store, I haven't explored yet... I'll run some tests over the weekend and get back to you, okay?

Okay, also i have one suggestion too regarding styles you get after combat. How about if you win a battle without getting a hit you would get that style for free, but if you take some damage you must pay for it,and if you take too much damage you wont be allowed to learn it. Just throwing ideas here:), anyway im awaiting for your reply.

If I could throw in my two cents, I personally feel that this is unrealistic. I liked the idea of earning styles after combat because I can understand learning from experience.. though I think that I learn equally as well when I get my butt handed to me by a certain technique, if not better, but that's just me. But I can't make any sense of spending silver. Who am I giving it to? Who is selling me the style? Where is my silver going???
It would make more sense if... there were say... a meter of some sort.. FOR EXAMPLE: where you fight an opponent using Leaping Tiger, when you defeat him you get experience towards the Leaping Tiger meter. After you beat like 5 people using Leaping Tiger you will learn it. And more powerful styles will require greater 'observation'. THAT is more realistic. But I don't know very much of anything when it comes to coding games, so I'm not sure if such a thing is even possible [in such an old game].
Anyway, I'd really like to see this whole spending silver thing gone, but without having to completely turn off the learning styles from enemies feature. Could you make separate options, perhaps?

Right now I'm leaning to a complete removal of the style store. Once you've earned a style, you will get it. Simple as that. If you think, there's too many useless styles in your repertoire, talk to one of the animals and tell them you want to forget some of them...

But I will stick with the concept, that you can only learn, when you do not get your butt handed to you. I do want new styles to be a reward for playing the game well.

I think your idea is the best. Its simple and more realistic. When we can expect 0.4 release or optional addon "mod" that would allow us to use this new system? I would like to get this feature as soon as possible to my game.

To be honest, it should have been finished already. But. I got sidetracked. I plan to mod Skyrim next and so I figured I'd tinker a bit with Oblivion to get into the mood. And then I got completely sucked into the game again... Now it's three weeks later and my next version should have been finished a week ago. *sigh*

I'll restart work on my current mod this week. Promised!

That's a bit funny, I actually just downloa- err *Cough* got Morrowind and was going to start looking into mods for that soon. Gotta love the oldies! But you deserve some major props for doing all of this work by yourself, on such an old game too! I would ask why you don't have a small team (or a friend.. or something) working on this with you, but JE wasn't a huge game to begin with, I doubt the fanbase has grown any..
Skyrim on the other hand.. is what I call a hype game. A game that has a large fanbase before it is even released. You can guarantee there will be TONS people modding this as soon as it comes out, considering how many mods there are for Oblivion. Imo modding happens for one of two reasons (maybe 3 xD) One: You found a bug that BUGS you to the point of trying to fix it. Two: You are so much of a fan of something (like anime, for example) that you want to implement it into this game. Or three: Someone requested it. xD With such a big game, I doubt Bethesda will have many things (read: flaws) that people will want fixed.
Oh, but I'm getting off topic @.@
So, when do you think you'll have this new update finished?

I'm the kind of person who starts modding when something in the game annoys me. In Oblivion I would have tackled that inane leveling. Why is that you're being punished for using too many skills? Why do you have to play the game in a completely moronic and un-fun way to get maximum number of points at level-up?

So it's actually a bit weird to say that I plan to get into modding a game that's not even out. It's not like a know in advance that something in there will annoy me big time. But then again... :)

As for my own mod: I expect it'll take at least two weeks until the next version - maybe three. But only if I manage to stop playing Oblivion. ;)

I'd love to say yes, but I can't think of anything that could be handed over to somebody else. It's mostly stuff that would take longer to explain than to do it myself... :O

I'll keep your offer in mind, though! Can I get back to you, if I need a tester?

EDIT:

Hey! Where's Oblivion? It was here just a moment ago! Damn. :dead:

*Cackles* Err, I mean- Sure sure, I'd be happy to test! I've got a bunch of free time so I can be thorough about it. :)
I guess until then I'll entertain myself by breaking my game in two. :3
