Depends on the mod, especially if the vanilla races are still present or your mod allows for very large scale fleets. Adding custom debris for ships would effect the game's overall performance.

Sins of a Galactic Empire is already borderline unplayable with it's capital ship spam with 12 fighters per capital ship.

Star Wars: Interregnum allows you very large fleets with an add on but also beefs the vanilla races.

STA3 although has debris, I think it sacrifices having larger sized fleets for games unless there is an add on that would allow this I am unaware of.
