The Eion-class light carrier was adopted into UNSC service following the outbreak of war in 2525. Insurrectionist campaigns in the outer colonies had mostly focused on ground invasions, but the alien threat demanded a new breed of carrier. Rather than the multi-mission planetary occupation carriers of old, the Eion specializes entirely into serving as a deployment platform for strikecraft sorties - something most signified by the sixteen F29 Nandao launch tubes located on the lateral surfaces of the ship. A further six GA-TL1 Longsword hangars and a massive internal storage bay allow the Eion to put out dozens of strikecraft sorties in a matter of minutes; albeit at the cost of an extensive armaments loadout.
