The Eclipse-class prowlers are an essential element of the Prowler Corps, acting as support ships for larger Prowler squadrons. Their dorsal phased-array radars and tail-mounted passive sensor clusters allow Eclipse-class vessels to act as the eyes and ears of a squadron, observing from afar and pointing out targets of opportunity. The most infamous Eclipse was the Red Horse, a Prowler tasked with investigating the remains of the megastructure reported in the Soell System in September 2552.
