July the fourteenth, 1883:
Being rather rudely awakened after a night of drunken revelry; Half-Rats is thrust into a rather dire situation. Utter calamity has erupted in the streets outside of the general store which he calls home - calamity of the most unnatural and horrific kind, that is. Now he and the shop keeper, Mr. Trask, must hold out against this infernal host of creatures together. Will they survive the night?
The first in the "Half-Rats" series. The game begins at the general store where you and Mr. Trask, your landlord and shop-keep must make a stand against a great horror whose origins will only be revealed at the close of this story. Though it is a general store, that does not mean it boasts unlimited resources...supplies and manpower will begin to run thin - and you'll need to face hell to go out and gather them. You may end up meeting a fresh face or two during the night's journey - try and keep them alive and kicking, yeah? Some of them could become great assets.
Estimated playtime on Medium difficulty: 1 Hour 20 minutes.
Gameplay features (By type):
Survival
Rail shooter - Boats and Trains perhaps?
Platformer
Arena (Run 'n Gun)
Escape (i.e.: Shit your pants running and evading - all while trying not to slip on what drops out of your trouser legs.)
This mod is for Half-Life - and is powered by the Goldsrc engine.
Over 3000 people have Half-Ratted, and will NOT be eaten by cats.
My goal for this singleplayer mod is to evoke the essence some of my favorite and YOUR favorite mods - mods that shaped my childhood for the worse...I want to scare the shit out of you this Halloween (Maybe, hopefully). Just like They Hunger did to me all those years ago. This is me...getting back to my roots. Don't expect a groundbreaking, breathtaking mod and excessive tons of custom content - just good fun! This mod will be very short, but hopefully sweet. Something to do before or after you go trick-or-treating, go to a party, or something to enjoy if you're by yourself with a bottle of your favorite spirits. I also would like to use this mod as a way to debut the Half-Rats universe and introduce you to the thing that ties all of this together - my musical project, "Ague" and my backstory. I eventually plan on taking this to the next level - a franchise that will immerse players in an engaging world and inspire them. All the while introducing them to the wondrous mode of another day - wrapped up in a multimedia experience with a protagonist you can reach out to in the real world. And in case you need assurance, that's right, you'll be playing as me...try not to rough me up too badly.
My god, I am flabbergasted at the amount of attention this has been getting. I thank you all for your continued interest and support. Thank you, Moddb for featuring my mod! You've helped make some dreams come true today. Thank you, watchers!
This is a man being eaten by cats. If you don't download this mod, the above will happen to you, and you won't very much like it.
A new version of the demo is out AND the "Beary Christmas" special is packaged with it? Yes! There's been a large amount of progress made on Half-Rats: Redridge since the last update? YES, YES, YES!
A lot of you may remember Qwertyus, the QA specialist who helped me polish up Half-Rats: A Fever Dream way back in 2015. Well, he's come back to work his magic on the rough, janky mess I released back in April of God knows when! He will also be reprising his role as QA on Half-Rats: Redridge.
Did I say "Half-Rats: Redridge"? Yes, I in fact did! Why? Because marketing and because of the fact that it's a Half-Rats mod. Though this time it's actually canonical and not a dream. Don't get too excited though because Half-Rats himself isn't in it...but he IS mentioned, and he IS a part of the same universe Redridge takes place in. We'll just call it Redridge for the sake of brevity, eh?
The Newly Polished Demo and Christmas Insanity!
Okay, you all are probably chomping at the bit to play a much more playable version of the Redridge demo, as well as a better Beary Christmas! So, here's the link to get that bit of content:
Here's some of the insanity you'll learn to expect!
Oh my!
I'm sure you'll also want to see some photos on progress on Redridge proper, so, here it is! By the way...all that's left is a few voice lines, a little more level geometry and the scripting for 2 and a half maps and Redridge is finished and ready for the testing phase! Shepard finished the last lines of code just a month ago! Pretty exciting huh?
Whose bong is that?
A Tuberculosis outbreak back in the day really put a damper on Shell Island, the town of Bittersweet and its tourist trade. Along with the collapse of the fisheries in the surrounding waters.
BOOM! Whoops!
Okay, some of you may have noticed that Officer Davis received a makeover between when the demo was released and now. You are very observant. Many of you probably don't realize is that the makeover that Netoxy performed was based on the face of a real-life person!
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you...
Joseph "Alexej" Zobay...The most eligible bachelor in mod models. He was the base for one of the publicans in Parasomnia as well as Mr. Trask!
He played with me in Ague, toured with us as a drummer for Arsenic Tea Party, and has been in many other bands with me since high school!
Ladies, as stated before, he is single and ready to mingle. He also makes enormous amounts of money. He's HIGHLY wealthy. Get at me if you want access to him! I'm kidding.
Okay! See you 'round! Prepare for the full version of Half-Rats: Redridge to drop...soon-ish...I hope. Maybe!
I made a little Christmas map for all of you to enjoy! It'll be released when the clock runs out!
My last update was a while ago. I have wonderful news for you and, as usual - cool things to show you!
Got a little extra time to brush the dust off of Redridge! I have some screenshots for ya'!
The story is done! Come read it and get some closure with me. This is the full, canonical story of Half-Rats.
Here it is! The full version! Be sure to read the Readme! Being rather rudely awakened after a night of drunken revelry; Half-Rats is thrust into a rather...
Includes Qwertyus' fixes AND the "Beary Christmas" Christmas bonus map!
This is the lazy-ass final part of the TRUE story of half-Rats. The canonical one that was supposed to be the original game.
The revised version of the second part of the canonical Half-Rats story.
The real story of Half-Rats, as it was meant to be told.
Well, here it is...What would have been the final Half-Rats mod. Included are the first few maps, scripts, some models, an entire gameplay synopsis/story/guide...
Hello. Since valves 25th anniversary update, the weaponwheel is kinda messed up. It would be nice if you can re-make it on the basis of the new one, so it also scales for high resoltion. idk if that is possible now, or when the new SDK releases, or, well, not at all haha. I'm a noob. just wanted to report on that issue.
just picking up the revolver for example does not show the revolver icon in the top left corner, but instead shows ALL the crosshairs lined up. either that happens, or the game crashes when trying to pick up the revolver.
the rest of the HUD does not show up at all.
Now I know I can go back to the pre-25th anniversary version, but not everyone will know that tbh, and that version does not include a high-resolution scaled weoponwheel nor the scaled text.
I just remade the HUD. The main menu screen is jacked to hell though.
what do you mean you just remake it? I don't see it in the version I downloaded. doesn't work with the new steam anniversary version
Oops, sorry - I thought this was a comment on Redridge. I no longer offer support for HRAFD. Sorry!
why tho? it's also in the same series. if you wanna play redridge, this is the first part before that. and it no longer works with the new update. it's only the HUD that is broken
Still going strong I see. Good that you still want to create mods. Fever Dream is a pretty good mod in my eyes.
Not only do I WANT to create new mods...we ARE creating a new one, AND fixing our previous blunders with Para.
I've always wondered if you allow people to use your content to make a mod of your gamemod. sounds weird but yea just asking cus i really want to.
I would strongly caution against using Parasomnia's Textures, though. Very dark.
Of course. I have since the very beginning. Only one person has attempted in the past decade, though. We usually release an SDK.
