Set in an split timeline where an incident caused Aperture Science and Black Mesa to reverse roles; Black Mesa loses government support but becomes a highly successful and unethical private science corporation and Aperture Science becomes an underfunded government science branch suffering from its eclectic administration. The Black Mesa incident has not yet occurred in this reality, as the more capitalistic incarnation of Black Mesa have not ventured far into the world of interdimensional teleportation. Nor has the Aperture incident occurred, primarily due to a lack of government funding in AI technology. You are a corporate spy working for Aperture science, sent to sabotage the Black Mesa Upsilon facility and steal your competitors abandoned teleportation research, allowing Aperture to continue the interdimensional teleportation project...

Description

A conveyor concept for one of the early levels you'll need to visit.

Systems like this are pretty simple in Source, but in Goldsrc they require a lot more work. There's basically 3 boxes, one open and two closed. The open box moves to the lid presser, and just as the lid is pressed on, the lid is de-rendered and the open box teleports back to the start of the line. From underneath the map, a closed box teleports back where the open box once was, before moving on down the line. Because another closed box has to appear before the line is cleared, we also have to change which box the system is targeting.

Goldsrc has no parenting system, or any point_template system. So since the lid needs to disappear off the presser they have to be separate elements that move at the exact same speed and time so the lid can be de-rendered, and a fake lid can be reapplied to the presser as its re-rendered. (The lid that slides on to "reload" the presser is just a door to give the illusion a new lid has been applied)

This whole system is basically one complicated sleight of hand trick. All these elements need to perform at the exact right time, so getting this stuff working is like piano tuning.
