Half-Life Chess is planned to be a full-blown chess playing system on the Half-Life 2 engine. Breakdown of planned features: - Battle Chess. Pieces will move and attack each other when you capture. - Ranking. Players will be ranked with a standard chess ranking system. Beat an opponent and your rank is raised. - Clock. A standard chess clock will be available. - AI. Players can battle it over the internet or test their skill against the AI (which will be an open-source plugin, so that others can write their own chess-playing bot.) - Variants. Players can play regular chess, or any number of variants, like Crazyhouse, Bughouse or blind chess. You can see the current changelog here: it is updated every time I release a new internal alpha to my crew. If you want to get involved, most of the development action goes on in #hlc on irc.gamesurge.net

Description

This is an image of a knight (the human assassin)
about to make it's move. The possible moves
this knight can make are highlighted as green
squares on the board, and possible attacks are
highlighted in red. (The highlighting feature can
be switched off in the client, and the server can
control whether highlighting is allowed. It's
useful for beginner players, and can be turned off
in ranked games.) Also of note is a small sprite
indicating the type of piece, underneath the
model. As you can see, the human assassin is a
knight, the scientist is a pawn, and the
nilhilanth is King. In later versions, you will be
able to remove the models and play only with the
sprites, to your liking.
