HOW DO I SETUP THE MOD?

Now first off you will need a copy of the game purchased through Steam. Then download the latest version of Half-Life: Alyx NoVR Launcher from GitHub.
If you use a Steam Deck or Linux, you will need to follow the instructions below instead.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE MOD ON STEAM DECK/LINUX?

To Install the mod for Steam Deck/Linux, first download the files from here.
Once downloaded, extract everything to a temporary folder and simply copy the “game” folder to the folder where you have installed Half-Life: Alyx through Steam (Proton version, not native). Then simply add these launch options to the game’s properties on Steam:
-novr -vsync +vr_enable_fake_vr 1
Then start the game!

HOW DO I CHANGE THE RESOLUTION OR OPEN THE CONSOLE?

If you want to add access to the console and setup the game to whatever resolution you desire add these custom launch options/change them at the bottom of the launcher:
-console -vconsole -w 3840 -h 2160
The console can be opened with the C key by default.

WHAT ARE THE CONTROLS?

The launcher adds an easy options menu to the game, so just review them in there.
On Steam Deck/Linux, to change the controls, rebind buttons, change the FOV and more, edit the bindings.lua file found here:
game\hlvr\scripts\vscripts\bindings.lua
in your main Half-Life: Alyx installation folder.
Default Input Bindings
Left Mouse Button: Select in Main Menu/Throw Held Object/Primary Attack
W, A, S, D: Move
Space: Jump
Ctrl: Crouch
Shift: Sprint
Right Mouse Button: Secondary Weapon Upgrade
Middle Mouse Button: Tertiary Weapon Upgrade
E: Interact/Pick Up Object Using Gravity Gloves
F: Flashlight (Once you get it in Chapter 2 - The Quarantine Zone)
T: Inspect Weapon
H: Hold to Cover your Mouth (Chapter 7 - Jeff)
F5: Quick Save
F9: Quick Load
M: Main Menu

V: noclip (If you get stuck on geometry or due to bugs etc)

What are the system requirements for the mod?
Half-Life Alyx NoVR’s requirements are the same as the base game for Half-Life Alyx. Any mid to high end gaming PC will run it easily, these specs are a bit higher than what you will actually need since the game is not running in stereoscopic 3D for VR, and therefore much less demanding.
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10/11 or Linux/Steam OS/Steam Deck
Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: 12 GB RAM
Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 - 6GB VRAM
Storage: 80GB (Game+Workshop Tools) ~80MB (MOD)
The mod can be played with keyboard and mouse or with a controller. With a Steam Deck you can play it in handheld mode or connected to your 4K TV or a monitor and playable with a keyboard and mouse or controller as well.
Adding the launcher as a non steam game is pretty nice if you prefer to do launch your games via clicking the steam taskbar icon.
Mod stopped working for me today. I have downloaded new update. When i click "HLA-NoVR-Launcher" it closes itself after 1s.

Selecting "HLA-NoVR-Launcher" now works for me - can access the launcher BUT the on screen menus are now very small and cannot be accessed except by using arrow keys to hopefully move the menus and land in the right position so that the highlighted portion can be selected by the left mouse button. (No VR Version 02 Dec 10:22)
Wait, are you seeing the old yellow main menu or the new one with the white buttons? Note that not using the launcher is unsupported, unless you use the Steam Deck version.
I was seeing the old yellow menu but it was very small- used the Nov 28 release to get the new white button selection.
I may have used the a steam deck download when trying to update - cannot remember - all is well now thanks for the work.

This update seems to have broken the mod for me! The menu doesn't appear on startup (thru the launcher) and I can't use the mouse to look around, just the arrow keys (?!). No way to start a saved game.

Mod isn't working. I click play, launcher closes, then opens again. I hit play again, launcher closes, nothing happens for a bit, then the game closes itself. And before you say "Try it now!" I did, with the most recent version.
The only suggestion I have is to go into the launcher folder and run the update.bat file. Helped me before when the launcher wasn't opening.
I'd appreciate if you could post a video of this, and preferably post the link in our Discord
at first is ok ,when i get to the first guntraining section,i continue press v and suddenly i can fly ,i close the game then open again, everything broken since then.just stuck in the main menu and nothing appear(
V is noclip, which it tells you the first time you press it, so the flying is normal if you press that. Just press it again to disable. As for the main menu not appearing, can you give me some details about your operating system, and if you have any display scaling enabled? Also, if you join the Discord, we'll be able to help you faster and with the help of videos/screenshots.

Since the anniversary update, I suffer from many random crashes
Need help figuring this out.
Since the update, when I go start the launcher it goes to windowed mode and I don't know how to make it fullscreen.
What is your resolution and custom launch options at the bottom of the launcher? Those should be the same, making it bordeless windowed fullscreen.

Same here not working. It loads up small...adjusted to correct resolution. Black background with options for continue, load, etc. Sound works but no game. If I alt+tab I can see the game is running with graphics but when alt+tabbing back to game it's just a black screen with sound. Any ideas? Re-downloaded, rebooted, and tried again. Same results.

Sorry...Win 10, gtx 4070, monitor 3840x2160. 32 ram. Worked last week. /shrug. Honestly, not much has changed. No win updates.

I've tried every iteration I know. Thank you for opportunity. It's not working. No changes. It's just blank screen.
Reloaded game among other things and tried again. It's asking for game location. In the folder and it says it can't find it. /shrug. Not sure where to go next.
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Half-Life Alyx\game\bin\win64 is location of .exe file. No idea.

Bei mir ist auch ein schwarzes Bild. In der Taskleiste sehe ich das Bild vom Spiel, Ton ist auch vorhanden. Komme auch in die neuste installierte Version des Launchers. Kann auch ein neues Spiel starten oder weiter spielen, auswählen in der Launcheroberfläche, aber eben nur mit schwarzem Desktopbild. Habe Windows 11 PRO 64 Bit Version, 4080 GPU, Ryzen 9 5900X 32 GB DDR4. Auflösung 3.840 x 2.160. Muss ich noch etwas anderes installieren oder in die Startoption reinkopieren bei HLA oder im Launcher?

Put your screen resolution in the launch options, for example for 1080p:
-w 1920 -h 1080

New to this community, was pretty glad for the MOD. First it works pretty well. But now when I open the luncher the game will start, but the main menu is gone. Still trying and looking for solutions.
Try removing the 'norvr' (something like that) folder within the 'game' folder of HL:A
Thanks for the help, but won´t work again. Next week, I will uninstall everything HLA and HLA-NoVR. Just to reinstall.

Upon the installation of the newest launcher, I have attempted on numerous occasions to select the "play" option, and am then instructed to select a folder. After selecting the Half-Life ALyx folder, I am met with the message "Half-Life Alyx Installation Not Found". How exactly can I fix this?
Fantastic mod, absolutely love it. I also have the windowed fullscreen thing - if I change the resolution in the launch options to smaller than the monitor's native 4k one, the game opens in a smaller window in the middle of the screen, but plays absolutely fine in that window. It would be great to get it fullscreen but in a non-4k resolution (so it doesn't run horrendously) but that doesn't seem possible; using -fullscreen in the launch options just crashes the game, so for now I'll just play it little!
