Going over updates to maps, new textures, new models and animations, and even a new NPC in development.

Hello again everyone. June was a productive month, with many new things being worked on. To start off, we uploaded a small teaser to Twitter and in our server. Check out the teaser on Youtube here:

The month started out great. I began working on the new Gas Scanner texture as soon as possible, and while still WIP, I like where it's going so far. Here's a peek at the new texture in-game.

Another big focus of mine this month was on the Houndeye model. Current model is.. serviceable, but Marco and I felt it wasn't quite up to our standards anymore. So, I set out to create a brand new Houndeye model and texture, from scratch. You can decide if it was worth it or not:

And I personally dislike the HLS Animations we typically see used for Houndeyes' in mods. Soo.. I've decided to reanimate it from scratch. Please excuse any roughness, I have only recently began animating, and these will improve over time alongside everything else. Here's a look at the running and attack animation.

BE WARNED: These gifs are bad quality, the anims are much smoother in-game. You'll just have to trust me!

Last Month i showed off D1_Wasteland_03. As is usual, the map has undergone many visual changes and has been overall improved a lot. I will show some WIP screenshots, these were being worked on just shortly before I wrote this article so please excuse any roughness.

One more small thing before we jump into the new NPC. I've been working on new Xen textures, here's a pic of my personal favorite.

Everyone please welcome... The Tripod Hopper.

We wanted to sneak in one more Xen enemy to the wasteland, so we decided to draw from Raising the Bar and create this new NPC. It is currently without AI, but the model and texture have had some work done, as you can see.

Oh, I'm also in the process of animating this.

I love this houndeye model. it looks like the Half-Life 2 version that was scrapped and makes sense visually, considering these creatures are facing starvation and possible mutation. I like to imagine them being more vicious and feral instead of defense mode like in Half-Life 1, driven completely insane by starvation as there is nothing for them to eat in this wasteland. I'm also very interested in the Tripod Hunter. when I saw it in Raising the Bar (Valve dev document), it looked so gross but yet so intriguing. Half-Life has a lot of interesting ways of showing what some call "beauty in the grotesque".
