Guys, I've seen the hype machine start complaining last night on your announcement. I just want to say that I appreciate that you're making this and keep up the fantastic work. Take your time. Let it be finished whenever it's finished. Cheers!

Discovered this mod yesterday (I'm new to the series) and now it gets a new release. This is pretty sweet.

The HD Mod required to calibrate the game (I got the Wingraph error) contains a Trojan, thus making this mod unplayable for many. Be warned.

This is very strange, and I will try to inform the creator of HD Mod of the issue.

On the website they say something like this:

"The install program is absolutely clean and safe. Windows Defender - ****"

I got the same warning but i installed it anyway and my pc still seems to be alright so it's probably false alarm again.

wait what so you installed it despite Windows Defender categorically saying they'd found a Trojan?

On the website where you download it they already warn you that Windows defender is going to nag about it and i see no reason why not to believe them. Antiviruses often go total apeshit when dealing with mods.

Also, I lost my faith in traditional antiviruses, like AVG and Avast, the moment they tried to tell me that my skyrim.exe was a dangerous file and they removed it.

Btw, i just did a scan with malwarebytes and it didn't find anything wrong. You'd think that if there was an actual trojan virus, it would find it, right? Especially if something as **** like windows defender can detect it...

That would be a good idea, but the creator might take weeks to reply. I suggest you find an alternative download source for the HD Mod.

If the official HD Mod site does not provide a "clean" archive, that's that.
But, I also have no problems on my PC regarding installation.

Just got it to work. The Mod has a couple of interface issues but frankly- thank you. It's an amazing bit of magic, love the game.

This mod looks and feels great at first playthrough. One thing I noticed, on single player maps it is possible to build unlimited structures(if you have the resourses) each turn.

To remove the resource reset bug:

1. Delete the game directory completely.
2. Download the H3SW v0.8.0 Installer once again from one of the links (ModDB, Dropbox, Google Drive)
3. Install CLEAN Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes Complete. No HD Mod, no WoG, no ERA, no HotA, etc.
4. Install the re-downloaded mod from p. 1.2.
5. Install HD Mod if required.
6. In HD Mod Launcher you should manually write this line:
<Fix.Cosmetic> = 0
Have fun!

Hey Orzie!
I appreciate the work you put into making this :) I eargerly followed the facebook page since may, Heroes 2 was the first game I played in the series and it will be fun to revisit it.

With that said, it says there is no mirrors available to download from at the moment.

Anyway happy new years and lets hope modDB fixes the mirrors soon

EDIT:Nevermind! I found working mirrors on the facebook page! :)

I need to know your OS and the way you installed the mod.

1. Download the H3SW v0.8.0 Installer once again from one of the links (ModDB, Dropbox, Google Drive)
2. Install CLEAN Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes Complete. No HD Mod, no WoG, no ERA, no HotA, etc.
4. Install the downloaded mod from p. 1
5. Install HD Mod.
6. In HD Mod Launcher, see Tweaks tab, you should manually write this line:
<Fix.Cosmetic> = 0

Launch h3sw.exe or HD Mod Launcher to play the game.

Done everything from point to point, but when it comes to installing window it's just turns off (that black window). I am on win7.

Let's go for the second stage. The reason might be in DEP (data execution prevention) feature turned on in your OS. You can turn it off for h3sw.exe and HD Mod Launcher according to this guide:
Online-tech-tips.com

Should work for Win7 too, had positive reports.

Reply Good karma+1 vote

It says that HD launcher requires DEP to be on to work properly, im using the newest version of HD Mod

Try turning DEP off only for h3sw.exe, and h3swmaped.exe if required.

This crashes about every 10-20 minutes for me, making it barely playable as of right now. Also having noticeable stutter during map traversal; this is with 32-bit GDI+system cursors checked, the other options all run a lot worse. I've seen XP SP3 compatibility mode mentioned as a possible performance fix but sadly this is not applicable to 7 x64, game would not start with that.

Besides the stuff mentioned elsewhere I've also noticed some UI issues like right-click textboxes sticking (checking artifacts or enemy unit stats), and I do think the current color for the hero movement bar makes it too hard read against the background. Also I've had one weird instance of a mage guild not replenishing spell points, though I can't reproduce that and don't have the save anymore.

As a final request, would it be feasible to have a switch for Price of Loyalty music in a future release? I know most people are going to prefer the vanilla tracks and I even agree with that myself, but being able to switch them for a change would be quite a unique feature for the mod.

Try this solution for the described stuttering/crash problems.

Find heroes3.ini in your game directory, and find the line CpuPatch=1. Change it to CpuPatch=0.

Report here if works or not.

Yes, this fixes the stuttering, though the crashes still occur (the 2 known in Sorceress town+periodic random ones). Going back and comparing to HotA, that one already had <Sys.CPU.ReduceUsage> = 0 by default in the HD mod, so I never had the stuttering issue there. 1 makes HotA stutter as well so your mod is clearly not at fault here.

I presume it's due to the lack of GDI HW acceleration on Vista+, so the CPU has to draw the entire 1080p screen... probably it's much more efficient on XP, also the game doesn't run on 7/10 at all without the HD mod, am I correct in assuming that you did all development on XP or older machines?

I also came across a weird "0" gnome stack inside a computer sorceress town that moved once, never did anything else and wasn't listed on the casualties screen after the fight. Also in that same game found a Battle Garb of Anduran guarded just by a stack of 11 Giants (that joined me), that was apparently even buffed to give +9 to all stats in addition to already giving max moral/luck and expert town portal? Absolutely game breaking... by the way, the artifacts system currently makes no sense at all and should be redone to match H3, with the cursed artifacts being a special class that just stays unequipped.

I dont know how to make it work i follow the steps but i just cant. Is it possible to do a .exe installer? The map maker work perfect!

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Orzie

This IS an EXE installer.

What problem do you have exactly?
To install the mod, it's no harder than that.

1. Download the mod.
2. Install the game. Should be CLEAN Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes Complete (not HD Mod, not Heroes 3 HD, not HotA, not WoG, not ERA, etc.)
3. Install H3SW v0.8.0.
4. Install HD Mod if h3sw.exe doesn't launch.
5. Don't forget to write the <Fix.Cosmetic>=0 line in the Tweaks tab of the HD Mod Launcher.

No, you need CLEAN Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes Complete.

Because the mod will not work properly otherwise.

I made changes to the map Tale of Two Lands. It does not show up on map list during the game. I used the map editor for this mod and it's using the HoMM2 graphics. Do I have to do anything else to play this map? Is one of my favorites after I make a few changes.

Fantastic job on this mod and you are combining two of my favorite games. All Hail Odin :)

This bug is met on some newer systems. We are working on it. According to the latest information, it seems that VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing on some computers, but we do not recommend downloading it from unreliable sources. In the next update, we are supposed to re-compile some of the mod plugins in compatibility mode to solve the problem.

EDIT: Try installing Visual C++ package from Microsoft website. Report if works.

You can try these options.
1. The Microsoft package for 32bit systems even though you are on a 64bit OS.
2. Turn off DEP for h3sw.exe according to this guide:

After short playing I encountered a bug where it was impossible to further build castle. It happened when I tried build Capitol.

And shortly after I build Capitol, City hall just simply disappear and Capitol from HoMM 3 appears.

This is because you installed the game wrong.

Paragraph 5 is missing.
