The blue-white trail in this screenshot originates from one of the most powerful space weapons: The Gravitic Accelerator fires tiny slugs at almost the speed of light and has tremendous impact power.
Unfortunately, due to the slugs being so small, this weapon can not attack planets, as the slugs simply vaporize on contact with the atmosphere. Keep this in mind when designing ships.
