It's basically a less sophisticated Karabiner 98k with all the ingenuity, precision, quality and ease of use stamped out in favor of cheap mass prodction by unskilled workers under bad conditions and with poor materials.

I am honestly surprised that this model still has a buttplate on the stock. Many of the models that actually exist today did not present such wanton extravagance (massive irony incoming) to the unfortunate conscript.

Also: Grammar Nazi Comment #1348 in German: It's Volkssturmgewehrs, not -gewers. The h doesn't get vindicated by a plural.

I'm surprised to see a safety on it.

The model is a little bit old. When i did it, i didn't have a lot of photos/materials like nowadays.
Unfortunately, i've found pictures vk98 in auctions and i though they were genuine (i hope ! otherwise some buyers are going to be disappointed ;) )

Grammar Nazi comment #1349 in German: It's Volkssturmgewehre, not -gewehrs. S isn't used to indicate plural in German except in rare cases, generally loan words.

You can certainly feel Germany's desperation just looking at this rifle.

Description

The Volkssturm (People's Storm) had been formed in October 1944 from half a million men too old or young to have been conscripted into the regular Heer. However, there were not enough regular weapons left to arm even the Army, let alone the Volkssturm. A series of cheap and primitive rifles were designed to arm the militia.

Perhaps the simplest of these primitive weapons was the Steyr VG5, also known as the Volkssturmkarabiner K98. It was assembled from a mixture of rejected receivers and shot out rifle barrels. Like all the Volkssturmgewehrs, it had fixed sights set for 100m. Unlike the other rifles, this one had no magazine and had to be reloaded after each shot. Both our Volkssturm rifles were made by Seth Soldier.
