to let you save some lifetime which i have lost here : you can attach only one thing per helper, so you would have to rerigg all weapons with properly attachement helpers and do all animations new.
you have this problem on mostly every game engine, it is also not really a problem as long you have this in mind as you rigg the weapon the first time and just include a bunch of helpers.
crytek have done this at player models, they have a looooooot bones where you can attach stuff, i think something around ~40, but the weapons have only helpers for spitfire, shells, mag... thats all if i remember right.

i dont understand what you mean, the laser is achieved with a modified version of the draw distance function.
oh, i was talking about "weapon customization", you know, attaching stuff to weapon.
