Five Elite Mercenaries are send to an Island in middle of the 1980'. The Task: Find and Eliminate a local Drug Baron. Features: new Physic, real Sunmovement, Day/Night Change, Hunger/Food system, realistic (!) Weather system, Light/Dark viewing system for AI, 5 different Fractions on the Island. Complete Realistic simulation of nearly all things, including Sleep. New weapons, new Vehicles. Vehicles driving system is now exact (!) like GTA IV , FireSystem,... this mod is Heavily inspired by GTA, IGI, FarCry.
so, got a GTX980 yesterday.
now i finally have a nice Framerate in Game and in Editor which makes all much more easier :D
to be precise: this same scene, without many props and detail stuff and without shadows, gave 25 FPS on my AMD HD6970.
now it's 60-70 with much more stuff placed and with full activated Shadows for Vegetation, Brushes and Entities and self Shadowing for big Brushed Objects.
And the GTX980 is only max half loaded, so i'm actually in the CPU limit (i7 4790@stock).
the good news is, that i did not notice bugs like i have found with a GTX560ti, like crashing to desktop, missing leaves from trees or ghostpictures. all look fine, only the sun lensflair shader is way stronger than on AMD cards.
but the GTX 980 throws even far shadows from electrical wires on the streets, in realtime !
here is also a first recording try. i absolutely did not get shadowplay to work, i tried it for about 8 hours with different drivers and even the old geforce experience from 2016 which does not need a activation.
i always have the crossed out recording button, as the half internet also does.
so i tried again MSI Afterburner, but the recording impact was horrible with compression, so i tried to record uncompressed, this short sequence toke 4.9 gb -.-
about the GPU memory load: this map requires with the actual used quality settings 1.2gb finally.
so a 2gb GPU would be nice, but reducing the grafic quality in options would help to keep the 1gb GPU ram limit.
i'm not sure if it will work with a 512 mb ram GPU, but i think even if this would work, the GPU would be so old that she can't handle this mod. but we will see.
...what should I say: Fantastic work as always. (Hope, everythings else improves for you also...). For all other things: Don't lose heart!
thank you Ripley!
i'm really pleased about your sympathy about my situation and, to be honestly, it helped me to keep standing, thank you!
Very nice. Once I`ve got my Vega card I thought I could also do more advanced and complex stuff with it. Then it turned out that none of the old 3ds max versions work on Vega, so I`m out of modding maybe for good.
thank you :)
about the 3Dsmax problem:
i know v7 and v8 runs only in wxp, v8 runs actually sometimes for some minutes on my windows7, before it freezes, and before i have it to shut down with the taskmanager. that is not the fault of your vega, Autodesc byself claimed, that this proggy does not support this OS.
thats why i choosed the 980, because there is a driver hack which should her allow to run on wxp, (i will try it the next days), so i can use max7 for real work.
you can and should experiment with a Virtual Machine with wxp and 3dsmax7 ;)
i'm still waiting since... months... for Tnllg's advice and help how to set it up for w7, i byself failed :D (i did not have a cdrom drive on my PC and was not clever enough to mount a HDD or SSD to the VM so i could install wxp, i simply did not just found the trick).
btw, you should come back to modding, it's fun :)
This was never an issue with my 780gtx >.<
Even on win 7
hmm, yes, the not working-behaviour in w7 was on my AMD card, and actually max8 did not crashed on my 980 , will observe it more. would be great to have the possibility to work on max during editing again (can't edit the map on wxp actually, it's to big).
edit:
after one hour of working in 3dsmax8: stable, no freeze-crash which happens usually after 3-4 minutes.
edit2:
even after 2 hours with a very big complex scene from a stalker map... no problems. wow, it was all the time AMD's driver which crashed max8 on w7. the internet is full of pple who reported that to autodesk and they always said: use a higher version.
and after 5 hours constantly opened, stretched over two monitors, rock stable working, wow, did not expected that ...
Interestingly, 3ds Max 6 managed to run on my 2007 laptop which had Windows 7 32-bit. But ever since I reinstalled the OS (7 64-bit), eeh, it doesn't work. But that's why I dual-booted it with XP. :D
i'm running w7 64bit!
i will try today 3dsmax7 and will report what happens.
I don't think it would work. It requires some specific security module that it fails to install on newer OSes. Hmm... I'm starting to think it needs a C runtime or something, but that can't be it. There must've been something about my laptop, or even the installation files themselves.
Also, it would be nice if there was a MaxScript for CryExport instead of a Max plugin.
It'd work on modern versions of 3ds Max, so we don't have to use old ones. I wonder if there are sources for CryExport anywhere.
Unfortunately there are none. What we have tho are the .cgf file source code inside the sdk. Someone would need to write an exporter from 0.It is possible, that's how takaros cryimporter came into existence :)
What about Blender .cgf addons? I recall garbitos mentioning those, and being Python scripts, they're sources by themselves. One could translate them to MaxScript. Hmm... could work, I guess. :)
You can run a VM with Windows XP & 3ds Max 7 or 8 on it,works for me on Windows 10.
There are no Vega drivers for xp :(
in a Vm you can use a Simulated GPU, as far as i know.
Nice upgrade now your game quality (and ambition :p ) will be way higher. :)
But just for correctness and to prevent misjudgement of the AMD GPU's (they have bad rep enough), you can't really compare a mid-range AMD HD6970 card that came out in 2010 to a past high-end Nvidia GTX980 that came out four years after and be surprised the GTX980 is way faster, four years of difference between two generations of high end cards can be massive, imagine between a mid-range and a high-end GPU.
Btw on my AMD RX 570 Crysis runs like crazy imagine Far Cry.
thank you :) and no, my ambitions are still standing, map is final, i only polish stuff and add missions and props and pickups :) things have come to an end ;)
about blaming AMD:
hey, i blamed twice times Nvidia in the first post ;) (shadowplay and drivers for 560ti).
no need to defend AMD, i used ATI and AMD cards since 2000, this is my first serious attempt to switch.
the main reason why it's actually this specific card, is 3dsmax7 and 8, who booth runs only on wxp, so my new GPU needs driver for that OS, and i tried to get the fastest card with my budget for.
also i needed special plugs for my two monitors (2x mDP ports who both support 144hz), and i have had luck with that card.
the fastest AMD card with XP drivers was something around the 290 or 270, does not remember.
