Fallout Cascadia
Development Blog Monthly Update #3 (August 2016)
edited by Matt – Project Lead
Welcome to the August 2016 edition of Cascadia's progress log.
Thank you for the interest in Cascadia. We have had another very productive month. We won't show you everything we have been up to, but hopefully what we do show will be quite exciting.
When designing our game we want to make a world that is believable. The Fallout universe has a deep and interesting lore, and we keep this in mind when designing. Bethesda's version of the universe is different that Black Isle's which was even different than Obsidian's. With this mod we would like to blend the best aspects of each developer, into a cohesive and awe-inspiring world.
This is a mod for Fallout 4, and will certainly make use of the many assets packed in the vanilla game and Far Harbor (with the other DLCs as possible resources as well). Our asset team has been hard at work making our game standout from east coast's Boston with architecture, weapons, and clutter that make Seattle come to life.
The asset team crafts these from the wonderful work the concept art team provides. It's a beautiful process to see an idea become drawn, then sculpted, textured, and implemented into the game.
The level design team has also been hard at work crafting many new interiors and exteriors to work with the newly implemented heightmap. Each location can tell several stories. The prewar use, post-war, and current use of any area of the map can be explained with environmental storytelling that our team in carefully creating.
Our writing team is working to tell the story in the more conventional way through dialogue, tough decision making and quest design in general. A common criticism for Fallout 4 is the new addition of a voiced protagonist to the series. Our mod will not have a voice actor for the main character (but will otherwise be fully voiced). We believe this will be best to put the "Role Playing" back into RPG. Combined with a better use of the limited four response dialogue system, we hope to have a game where you step-into our world and be fully immersed from the beginning.
We have had many experienced team members join our crew over the past month. We are currently looking for a few well qualified in the areas of concept art, level design, and writing. You can apply by sending an email that includes your previous experience to FalloutCascadia@gmail.com
Working on this project has been time consuming, but a very enjoyable experience. The team gets ideas from all of its members, and sometimes jokes can turn into usable ideas! The road to Cascadia is a long one, and we still have a long way go, but we hope we can make an experience that the team can be proud of, and the community can enjoy.
See you in Seattle!
