Hi I cant seem to get a dedicated server to host on Internet. I can host locally just fine, but even forwarding my ports didnt seem to resolve the issue. Is there something I need to change in the config file to get this to work? There arent enough servers up for this awesome mod!

All you should need to do is run the .bat file to create a server. If the server isn't visible outside of your network then you need to look at port forwarding or opening up your firewall.

If it still isn't working then I don't know what to suggest other than making sure that you've setup the right port ranges and configured everything properly. There isn't anything in the .cfg file you need to enable to make the server available outside of your LAN, the .cfg file contains settings for things like number of bots, game modes, etc.

Same here. The ports are forwarded but it is not working.

Ok. So here I must say something. I guess that since this is a game still in development, and without having a single coin for your job, we can't really ask you for hosting a server for us if you don't want to. I understand that if you want a hosted server, that needs money, and you have 0 money to spend on this right now.

However, if you want to see the mod evolved and be played by far more people, even going out on IGN, metacritic etc (that would be kinda jump almost from mod to indie) you will sooner or later need to host a server. A game get's famous when is played by a lot of people, and her almost every one of us knows the other common players.

My opinion is that you should kinda find a cheap host server, or a way to have a couple of 24/7 servers, even if they have 0 people. The simple fact of having them gives the feeling of being professional.

Anyway, is not that what worries most of me. Is the class balance.

Class are pretty far unbalanced, styles lack some bonuses to encourage a type of play... I already told it could be made by making the Forms unlock distint bonuses and styles, in a way, in adiotion, that feels SW universe accurate. Those things.

For the momment is great to see your speed patching the first errors from the game, I only expect you polished all the game.

The classes are balanced once you learn the traits, for example, tall characters with high health can be defeated easily by crouching when you attack them so that you can swing under their standing block area. This is something we'll keep looking at in future updates though, and the more we play, the more we'll learn about the balancing issues.

In terms of a dedicated server, yeah that would cost us money potentially, but I'll look at maybe hosting one myself. Other than that, it might be asking around different clans to see if they'd host the server - there are some pretty dedicated communities out there that might be willing to use one of there servers for EoCIV. It's worth an ask! Maybe try JAWA Clan?

Well, while that powerhouses are fine, I think that you should limit the styles they can select. It's pretty ridiculous to see vader with blue style. I still feel some things should be polished. I still have to give you my ideas about the Forms and how they could modify classes, giving more deepness to the game. And MOST IMPORTANT, is pretty strange thing to see red style used. Why? Because it's all about timing and fast attacks. I don't even know if Force Points get depleted when parrying/blocking (opposed to gunners, which deplect you pretty fast the FP). I don't know if you still do, but in EoC III, the styles had different bonuses that encouraged a different gameplay with each one. I don't know if they are still working on this version, but if they do, It'd be nice. I still have some ideas appart from that, but they might need to rebuild some things of the sabersystem inner behaviour.

Problem is that is too extense to tell. But in essence they are directed to this. Forms would be selected as Force Powers, with 3 differens levels aswell. Each one gives different bonuses and have different requirements.

Form I: No bonuses. Gives 1 style per level. Level 1 yellow, level 2 blue, level 3 red.

Form II: Makashi. Bonuses directed towards swift hits and redirecting the enemies attack with your own attacks to create openings in the defense. Uses blue style as main and can also unlock yellow. Also, the stab roll FP cost could be reduced.

Form III: Soresu. Directed to enhance the defense. In order to do something with this Form, it would be needed that the Force Pool can actually be depleted in a duel, since the bonuses of this form would be directed in order to reduce the loss of FP when being hit. Cyan style and another one.

Form IV: Ataru. Yellow and other standard style (means neither duals or staff). Directed to reduce maneuvers of combat that use Force and enhance them. Enhanced attack speed aswell (but not very much) since the ataru users use very kinetic and fast moves.

Form V: Shien. Directed to make the redirect of blast against enemy more reliable. Yellow and cyan stances.

Form V: Djem So. Directed towards redirecting the enemy attacks with your own blocks and so opening defenses. In star wars canon, this Form is a mixture of the previous four (wiithout counting Shien, ofc). It takes from the Form II the philosophy of redirecting the enemy attack, and merges it with the defensive strength of the Form III. So you deflect the enemy's attacks with your own defense stance, instead with your attacks as in Form II. From ataru inherits the yellow and red styles. The damage to the FP of the different style should be different, in this order. Red > purple > staff > yellow > blue/duals > cyan.

Form VI: Niman. Features all the styles and all the other bonuses of the Forms but in a much lesser degree.

Form VII: Juyo/Vaapad. Red purple and yellow styles. Features a system that make each of your strikes grow in damage to the foe's FP, each time you perfect block (block with perfect timing) or you land an attack without being perfect blocked. Perfect block would be blocking towards the correct side and in the correct timing, this means, being hit by the enemy saber like 0.5 seconds after you move your lightsaber towards that stance.

I still don't have bonuses thought for Staff and Duals, but, however, I can explain with more details the bonuses to the main 7 forms, explaining how to implement them in the game.

Pass this to serenity and consider the viability of the propose. Specially the possibility of depleting enemy FP when not doing a good block, since this would open a new strategy appart for simply timing the hits to land in the enemy when he is not blocking.

Hey everybody. I've only just looked at modding jedi academy and This looks like a fantastic mod that I really want to get into on multiplayer. I was a dedicated server host on byond for 6 months at a time. I've managed to install the mod and host a server but I have no idea about how to change maps among other things. I also have no idea how to change the max number of players. If you guys can help me with these little things then I would gladly host a 24/7 server till other arrangements are made :)

I might not check this again or might forget so if anyone is interested email me (kyle-piper@hotmail.com)

That would be amazing if you could. The "Evolution_of_CombatIV_Server.cfg" file is where you can change all the server settings. Most things are kinda self explanatory, e.g. sv_maxclients is the number of max players, sv_hostname is the hostname for the server, etc.

To change the number of bots (so if there aren't many people on the server someone can still join and play against the A.I.) you can change the bot_minplayers value for each gamemode.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info just let me know.
