Back in 2008/9, myself and a few others decided to go back and work on ED some more, to try and make it the game we really hoped it would be in the first place. ED had a good reaction (way better then I thought), but it was let down by some factors. The first being, most of us were cutting our teeth on the mod, and were learning as we went along. Other factors included the fact we tried to do way to much and ended up backing ourselves into a corner. Rather then taking it level by level and working for a good degree of polish, too much emphases was put on making the game long enough to be considered a real add-on. We also wasted quite a bit of time on the fairly pointless MP mode.
Finally, due to RWS wanting to include it on the Fudge pack, we suddenly had a deadline to hit, and it was rushed out the door.
Whist we are working on another little Postal 2 project right now (to try and take our minds of the disaster that is Postal 3) I can't quite get my mind off of hitting the ED remake back up. It's already got a ton of the weaker levels reworked, and we had plans to replace / improve some of the voice acting, add new levels, and generally improve what was there. The file size is also smaller due to much of the unused content being removed.
So in short, it's not starting any time in the next few months due to our other, kinda secret project, but if there is any kinda reaction or ripple from this news post here and over at res-studios.net, it will be deeply considered.
For a preview of a small part of the remake, the youtube release below. If you play the first level of ED before or after, you'll appreciate the difference.
cool
Great news!
We tried once the MP with friends, I remember a nighty place in a kind of cemetery with a wooden bridge, but that's all :/
Did not thought the dev was like this, the finished mod is really impressive, can't imagine how it would have looked like when you devs would have considered it as finished :) (Sorry for bad english)
Sure in community you'll have some help :) When I tried to start mapping on P² years ago I found nice guys
not sure if the mp will be picked up on to be honest,i guess if we get enough support for it then toploader and MrD might consider it.
were as me i'm toploaders bitch ill do whatever he wants me to lol :P
I just wanna tie up some loose ends, even if those loose end are nearly 6 years old now (more then 8 since work on the mod started!!)
is it bad if i liked postal 3 :/
Not at all, some do like it and that's great. But it's fair to say many of the hardcore P2 fans felt let down by it.
