ERROR v2.1 Release

News 2 comments

Apologies for the wait between v2.0 and v2.1! It took some time for me to speak to someone to give me the final contents of the files used in the "final" version. This version seems to add some new content during the escape sequence, as well as change some things in some of the previous levels. Hopefully you all enjoy some of the new content! As of now, I'm still looking into whoever Dead Dev Games are, as well as playing some of the other games that they released. If there's anything new related to ERROR that I find, I'll be sure to post it here, but for now I'll be posting most of my findings on the Dead Dev Games Archive.

Thank you to everyone who supported the mod, you're the best!

ERROR v2.0 or v2.1

News 9 comments

I've recently discovered that the source mod that I've compiled and released here is actually an earlier version of the game that Dead Dev Games have created. I am currently in contact with someone that claims to have the final version of Dead Dev Games' version of Portal, but I am unsure as to whether or not I should update it as v2.0 or create an entirely new v2.1.

Please let me know on how I should update the source mod. At the moment. I am waiting for my contact to get everything ready to send the final version of the game (which hopefully shouldn't take too long).

Until then, I'm still searching for more info on Dead Dev Games and the games they create. If anyone has any information about them, please let me know!

Alright, so I've recently downloaded Portal on Steam mainly because I wanted to experience the whole Portal series again. I'm a huge fan of the series as well as the series it was based upon: Half-Life. So, I downloaded the game, launched it up from Steam, and I noticed something very... off.

Most of the sounds, textures, and maps were corrupted and didn't even work, and the maps that did work were... unsettling... to say the least. It wasn't what the original Portal was, anyway. I've tried anything I could to fix it. I verified the game files, reinstalled the entire game, and I even reset my PC to ensure that there was nothing wrong with it. In the end, all of those solutions failed. However, I'm fairly certain that what has happened to this game is something that no ordinary corruption can do. So, I will be attempting to fix up this weird version of the game and bundle it all up into a source mod.

As of now, I have only gotten the first map to work, so expect to see a download soon. I will be updating the mod as I repair each map, so if there's ever a long break between each update, now you know why.

Share your thoughts and opinions if you'd like, because this "version" of Portal is very interesting. At least, to me it is...

Well, the first version of ERROR is here! As I've said before here, this isn't the final release of it, I still have a long way to go to fix these maps. Speaking of which, I've found some very odd things while I was working on this source mod...

In the gameinfo.txt file, it says that the developer of this version of Portal is Dead Dev Games...

After digging around online for a few days, I haven't found any information about who or what they are. But if any of you have any information about who they are, be my guest.

I've also found some unusual Face Poser files for GLaDOS, and a faceless Chell model. To be honest, I really don't think this is some kind of corruption anymore. Some of these maps are just creepy modified versions of the normal test chambers and some of them completely change the maps and how they're usually played out. I think that the first map follows the first formula I previously mentioned, and then changes more and more throughout each test chamber. I still don't even know what the first map means... or if it has any meaning to it at all.

Either way, I'm still working on getting more maps out there. In the meantime, I'll post more dev blogs of my findings and talk to you guys as well. If you would like to download the first version of ERROR, click on this link.

Also, if you find any bugs/errors, let me know and I'll do my best to fix it!

So I've done some more research on Dead Dev Games, and I still haven't found much...

However. something had happened while doing my research. Last night while I was looking up what Dead Dev Games could be, I suddenly got an alert from my Steam application. I open it to see what it was, and I find a friend request from a person named "Po". I accepted it because I don't have any Steam friends myself...

A minute later, I received a Steam message from Po.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Po: I saw your portal mod on moddb. you are the creator right?

Yes, I did compile the source mod together. Thanks for giving it a look!

Po: I see. i also saw your blogs. Stop looking for us. you don't need to know anything else about us.

Are you part of Dead Dev Games?

Po: Yes i was at one point.

Po: Ill update your game since you cant get it back. i dont know how you got a hold of our project.

Wait, what do you mean by updating it?

Hello?

------------------------------------------------------------------

An hour later, I found out that Portal had an update. I don't know how, but Po had somehow managed to delete my version of the game and update it to the actual latest version; the normal version, if you will. It's a good thing I had backed up the files before then, but I think it's clear that whoever these people are don't want me to look into this project.

Either way, we'll see what happens after this. Hopefully I can find more info on what's going on. But at the same time, hopefully I don't...
