Hey :)
So this is a concept for a cruiser sized anti-starfighter Stardestroyer.
Length: 1090 meters
potential weapons:
* tons of rapid fire lasercannonturrets
* Flak-Massdrivers (They explode and deal area of effect damage)
* shot lasers (***Space-shot-gun***)
This idea has been provided by DwatchRazgriz! Thank you man ! :D
What do you guys think about that design and idea ?
Wow, I'm flattered to see this. Thank you very much for taking that piece of advice into consideration.
I'd certainly like to see it, given the fact the rebels can field large amounts of pretty damn good fighter sized crafts I think it would fit perfectly into the Imperial Roster.
Yeah, the suggestion/advice for some new ant-fighter specialists came from having that same EXACT problem.
Why not give it alot of tractor beams and ion cannons too and make it a heavy support cruiser ?
I´m not sure if that would make it to powerfull.
But we keep that in mind !Thanks for your suggestion ;)
I think it probably would, considering you seem to intend it to be ant-fight/bomber/corvette (the sheer amount of fire it can put out would make it good against corvettes and perhaps other light ships), ion cannons on top of that would make the vessel just a bit more effective at fleet level (capital ship slugging matches) than it should be.
Totally agree! But we can test that in the closed Beta soon :)
Seems fair i can see how ion cannon could make it too powerfull however i still think that there should be tractor beams to deal with corvette's
Or to keep those Quasars from running...Yeah I agree with you on that part.
Its larger than a victory it should be capable of fleet level engagements. Just make it a buff victory with enhanced AA capabilities.
In RL, yes that makes sense...For a game that's supposed to somewhat balanced, it would give the Empire a hugely effective warship compared to the Rebels.
And? If you want something like this just shrink it down to 600 meters or so and give it mid frigate capabilities.
Except this seems to be a final tech tier ship (when all the big ships come out)...If they other designs for lower tier ships (2 and 3 mostly) they would probably be that size or smaller.
Regardless of what tier you're not gonna have a capital class ship dedicated to Anti Starfighters. Given the fact that thing has the space and power plant to to have several ion/turbo batteries and said AA weapons.
Even then it would most likely not be as large unless you're going to give it serious armor/firepower against other capitals plus a heavy focus on AA
Except for in vid games, in RL I agree with you. But for a balanced game it's fine.
Beautiful design but... for a class so large it better have some heavy anti ship capabilities? To be honest I've always found it autistic that the large ships in starwars never had vast AA capabilities like any ship in real life or other fantasies I feel like they just screamed to give rebels a easy edge or lazy to go into that much detail.
We were also playing with that idea as well giving the capital ships a limited amount of AA capabilities.
We will see how this ship is doing in the game and we may add some heavier weapons as well. We will see ;)
This states that star destroyer had 2 quad laser cannons to deal with star fighters Galacticempiredatabank.com , it doesn't seem to say where they were located however
Which is way too little really... Stepping outside the lore one can easily see that GL was putting glaring weaknesses into the Empire's navy to make the Rebel's victory with their limited resources believable.
For a capital class warship, I agree that amount of anti-smallcraft weaponry is pitiful, perhaps change it to 4, and put it just in front of the bridge on the spine of the ship perhaps?
If we're going for a realistic approach to the design of the ship, there should be a lot more than that (with ships THAT large there is no excuse not to have dozens of AA batteries)...If we want a balanced warship the design they have posted looks fairly well balanced already.
Looks beautiful already tho
I'm probably thinking this ship design is a predecessor to the First Order's Resurgent-class.
Are you guys also planning on early prototype Resurgent-class Star Destroyer for the Empire?
I would reveal to much if I would answer that ;)
It's an amazing looking ship though I agree with most people that something that large wouldn't just be a dedicated AA ship. Maybe make it a missile platform as well which would help it even more in the AA department as well as give it a capital grade purpose so it's like space artillery. The missiles could let it protect a wider area from fighters.
Or it can be loaded with a lot of light turbos so it's a dedicated anti frigate/corvette destroyer that would also excel at anti fighter work due to it's rapid firing light turbos plus a good AA outfit. Considering most of the Rebel fleet appeared to be frigate/corvette sized I could see the Empire developing a ship to counter those. It could have more speed than a Star Destroyer to help chase down corvettes, ignoring the fact that a Star Destroyer can do that on its own anyway as shown in episode IV, but this is a game here so the corvettes need some advantage to be useful and this being quick would give it a good purpose as well. That would make this basically a pursuit cruiser but if it runs into a Mon Cal it would get whipped because it's weapons are low yield vs a Mon Cal's heavy turbos. I'd maybe scale it down to be a bit smaller than a Victory since if you don't need space for heavy Turbos then you can afford to be a bit smaller. It would still dwarf and heavily outgun ships like a Nebulon B or Corellian Corvette it's intended targets.
Just throwing out ideas here and you can just use that as the description but game mechanics you basically use it to counter fighter swarms since that's what the Empire really needs. Corvettes and frigates aren't ever that big of a threat to ships you use in game anyway.
That´s a nice idea !
The rebels actually will get buffed with some frigate/corvette sized ships so your idea might just be very good :D
That second idea makes a heck of a lot of sense...Hm...Building off your idea, maybe make the Harraser model they currently have as a smaller ship (by a hundred meters or so) and mostly AA oriented, but the one you mentioned is the bigger ship...Like a "pocket star destroyer," heavily armed enough to destroy anything it can catch, but fast enough to avoid most things it can't out fight(except for Star Dreadnoughts like the Executioner, which have heavy enough tractor beams to stop them from running...or larger capital ships that are able to grab it before it escapes).
The procursator-class would work amazingly well for the pocket destroyer role.
Although, the Ton-Falk escort frigate could be used as an anti-air/fighter platform.
The procursator class is about as strong (firepower wise) as an old Dreadnought Class Heavy Cruiser...at 500 meters longer.
As for the Ton-Falk, it's a reb ship...and a carrier at that.
The Procursator has a hell of lot more FP then the dreadnaouht-class, and is about 6x the volume, 1200 meters of wedge in comparison to a 500 phallic brick. Weapon power, not # of weapons, ignore wiki for it, they used an image the only "shown" source. Ask the guy who designed the ship for the book it was in.
The Taon-Falk is an Imperial Ship, rebels stole and used some but it was designed by imperials for Starfighter carriage, rather then having a redundant if cool destroyer design one can use the flying brick with a lot of anti-fighter lasers and missiles - for anti-fighter purposes, adding the carrier role only helps that.
The Procurator may have more Capital ship grade weapons, but it's more of a smaller line ship than a pocket SD (which would have much more lighter armaments to facilitate it's role as a raider/anti-pirate/pursuit ship).
At a lower tech level it may make sense (and a mod that focuses solely on making the Empire the juggernaught it is supposed to be), but at max tech level it doesn't. Hence the harraser, it's the max level AA ship of the Empire it looks like (when SSDs can be produced).
LOVE the way the engines are sloped. Superb.
