Greetings, Companions of Edain!
As you probably noticed, we have been rather quiet during the last few months. This had, among other reasons, to do with a very tough decision: In the light of the changes to copyright laws in Germany, we had to remove several pieces of music and voices from Edain. Those are mainly from the soundtrack of the Hobbit trilogy and from heroes and units who got their voices from other games or movies.
We didn't make this decision lightly. We looked for a way around removing things from Edain for quite some time. While the Hobbit movies may have been controversial amongst fans, most people agree that music like the dwarven songs were phenomenal. In the end, we don't see a way to keep this content in the mod. The soundsets we removed mostly affect heroes who weren't part of the vanilla game: Cirdan, the Twins, Helegwen etc. Their voices were replaced by the CaH, the customizable heroes for now. In the long run, we intend to give each and every unit its own soundset by creating the voices ourselves, a method that has proven effective for many other mods.
What this doesn't mean is that the release of 4.5 has to be postponed for several months again. We already identified these contents and implemented the changes over the summer. Which brings us to the good news:
Edain 4.5 is close. Very close.
We can't give you a release date yet, but the list of bugs that need fixing grows smaller day by day. All changes, new concepts, maps and heroes have been implemented and playtested. So to give you a sneak peek of the upcoming version, there will be a livestream of the beta on the 16th October, starting around 19:00 CEST. Our testers will play a couple of matches while Gnomi and I will commentate and answer your questions in English.

About the copyright laws... couldn't you declare that the group is international, that the mod has no "nationality" so that the laws from Germany don't affect the mod?
It does not work like that, since any german members of the group could still be charged, and the mod download outlawed in Germany.

Probably would be cheaper to just buy the rights for all the sounds, instead of moving to Fiji with the whole team and their families.

There shouldn't be much difference in running a game on different windows' versions so you shouldn't meet any problems.
Thx! My issues must be something else then since I got a "new old" PC with win 8. When I launch the game only the loading picture before game starts up on desktop and loads until the game crashes. Very weird been playing this game on and of since the release of BFME1 and never had this issue on other PC's before

Guys, i have a trick with the music. Disable music in-game and play the soundtracks on youtube. Not the same thing but we can't get better than this

It will work for you guys, but for US Germans even YT playlists could become a problem because if this law starts his work a lot of content will be removed from YT Germany an many other european countries.
The solution is to take his good old lotr and hobbit soundtrack on CD and than lets get started
Use VPN , or download now the soundtracks :D
Spotify or similar service would work fine for this method.
A good solution that could come from the community is to make a submod for the music, that someone could make seperately for the mod and doesn't come from the team. I still don't understand why mods take lines straight from the movies so I'm glad they're gone, but that's just me I guess xD.

Yes I also thought to this solution, that could be a good idea to make a musique submod Fredius! However I don't know if the fact to make a "sub-mod" could be the solution for copyright laws. Because, if someone introduce that as a Submod od official Edain maybe edain could have some problems (I'm not sure, I only say that as a question).
I like the music of the hobbit, concerning the voices, I have habit to disable them in game because I find it tiring to hear the same lines again and again xD (not only those of edain, all voices including those of BFME).
We wouldn't be able to host it at our website. Anything else is more or less out of our control.
There is a good Edain Community content Moddb page. It's out of the official team's control and is well known by the fans. The unofficial Discord should suffice too. The important part is that it should come from a member not from Germany, since the rights are a lot more strict there. Else other mods would also have a problem.
If you know a thing or two about modding, make a copy of the 4.4 music big file, and when 4.5 is released, just code it or paste it over the new music file. Just don't do anything stupid that could get Edain Team in trouble, like releasing it as a music submod or something...

To remove the sounds we removed the audio files and changed the soundsets in the voice.ini and .inc, without chaning which hero gets which soundset, because that allows us better readd new custom soundsets for heroes.

Damn, news of another delay is disheartening, but I'm very excited to see the Beta livestream. Glad to know the mod is ready for a showcase.

The music is not a huge deal for me - I usually just play the soundtracks from my phone anyway - the real bummer is having to remove the voices, as I quite like Richard Harris as Cirdan and I've really grown used to and fond of the others.
But hey, do what you need to do, I'm sure you guys will come up with a great fix! Still haven't given up hope of playing as the unreleased factions!
