A remastering of the 2004 classic. Although a lot of it is rebalancing, even though there are a few changes that one could say as being drastic, there however are some presentational differences like the lighting, music (yes, music) and sound effects. But in the end, this is still Doom 3. BFG Edition not included.
It's subtle but I do think the change does elevate the atmosphear...at least a bit.
On a side note: All the new sound effects in Golden Edition are just modifications of Doom 3's sound effects, no sound effects were taken from other sources, especially from other games (OK there is one punching sound effect that's not from Doom 3).
Personally, I would have made the Machine Gun to have 99 bullets per clip rather than 100 as a reference to Aliens!
Chaingun has 99 (;
But yeah, the machine gun used to be 99. But the ammo pickups are either 50 or 25 and...I dunno, Seeing the display show 99/1 or 99/201 really makes my OCD itch.
The Chaingun's pickups however are either 66 or 33, so it works out nicely. ^_^
Why would you retain the Machine Gun and the Chaingun having (almost) the same clip/belt size? I never understood why it was like that in vanilla to begin with, as one of the usual features of a chaingun is that it can be fired for a fairly long time without running out of ammo - usually at the cost of accuracy.
I changed it back to 99 for the sake of consistency ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I couldn't get over how the plasma gun was 99 but had clips of 50 and 25 just like the machine gun.
Personally, the only weapon I would have changed the clip size is the Machine Gun (to 99, and only as a nod to Aliens); the Chaingun, I would have removed the need to reload altogether while making it more inaccurate to compensate! I would do so myself, but I never could find how to remove the belt ammo counter and center the total ammo counter. I seem to remember seeing a mod that managed to do that, but I cannot find it again. Oh well!
