After Bethesda has released the widescreen assets for the new version of the Unity-based widescreen version of Doom freely for usage in mods, I decided to compile them into a package to make them easily usable in Doom source ports like GZDoom. I don't claim any copyright for these assets, these are only just the original assets from Bethesda, cropped for different aspect ratios.

Ah I knew someone would do this. Thanks a lot

edit:

Not sure how to use it properly tho. When loading up doom it looks like the screen is wrong aspect ratio with black bars left and right (using the 16_9 file on a 16:9 screen)

edit2:

This doesn't even work for intermission screens.

You can't just replace the pictures. You have to tell the game to use a different aspect ratio for these cases. Otherwise it displays a widescreenpicture across the same 4:3 area as pefore.

You have to use a matching video mode which has the 16:9 aspect ratio in the game options in GZDoom.
Go to "Options" -> "Set Video Mode" -> "Choose resolution preset" and choose one of the 16:9 Video Modes:
* 960x540
* 1280x720
* 1366x768
* 1920x1080
* 2560x1440
* 3840x2160

This works fine (at least) for me, I have actually tested all aspect ratios before releasing this patch.

But you are right, maybe I should update the README to make this clear.

I hope this works fine for you too after switching the video mode.

EDIT:
I just realized you want actually the 16:9 version, so I changed to the instructions from 16:10 to 16:9.

EDIT2:
The version of GZDoom I used for testing is 4.4.2.

Yes I did that all. The problem was that I was using gzdoom 4.3.3

So yes needs a port capable of handling those widescreen pictures. And thats latest gzdoom. Thanks

edit:
I'm going back to gzdoom 4.3.3. The high resolution packs stopped working in 4.4.2

Maybe some day.

GZDoom 4.5.0 just released yesterday and had added widescreen support for the menu, intermission screens, etc.

RIP Doom Widescreen Patch 1.0.0
September 25th - October 31st

Unless you still want to use an older version of GZDoom...
