CFCS Release 8. Some considerable changes here. See the full description
Welcome to Release 8. Some nice improvements I hope you'll agree.
Righty, first things first, make sure you have a clean, unmodified install of BK. Now to clarify what I mean here, I mean one you've either never played before, or remove all other mods from the data folder (mods in the "Mods" folder are fine) and delete the scenarios folder. This is because the game uses this folder as a cache, so, if you have old files from the vanilla (or another mod) campaigns hanging about in there, the game will read those first and not the shiny new R8 campaign files.
Anyway so, installation is quite simple. There are three compressed files:
CFCS Release 8.rar
CFCS Release 8 Movies and Music.zip
CFCS Release 8 DLLs.zip
Extract the first two.
You'll now have four folders.
Mods
Data Folder
Music
Movies
Open your Blitzkrieg installation. For Steam installations, this will simply be \Blitzkrieg. For GoG and Disc versions, this will be \Blitzkrieg\Run. (Either way, if I say "your main Blitzkrieg folder" I mean the folder where the game.exe, mapeditor.exe etc are located, be it \Blitzkrieg or \Blitzkrieg\Run).
Copy the pak files from inside of the "Data Folder" folder to your Blitzkrieg Data folder. (So, \Blitzkrieg\Data or \Blitzkrieg\Run\Data).
Copy the Music folder to your Blitzkrieg Data folder. This will overwrite the existing music.
Copy the Mods folder to your main Blitzkrieg folder.
Now open CFCS Release 8 DLLs.zip. Copy the contents to your main Blitzkrieg folder. It will overwrite a number of files, including your Game.exe and Mapeditor.exe. These are required for new features to work properly.)
That's it, although more advanced users may wish to make some tweaks to the wrapper included. For this version, I've returned to a DGVoodoo Wrapper. Seems to work best.
So whats new in R8? Well, not as big as the R6-R7 jump but still significant
- Fully added the new Spanish Civil War and Korean War Campaigns. The patches for R7 added them too
- Reworked US and Commonwealth Campaigns. I have altered the scripts for them to include more unit variation, and generally be bettter balanced regarding what you get as core units and when.
- Added random maps for Tropical chapters in these two campaigns. Singapore, Burma, New Guinea, Philippines, Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Okinawa now have random maps.
- Split Iwo Jima and Okinawa into separate chapters for this reason
- Added a new Poland 1939 prequel chapter for the Commonwealth Campaign. You get to command the Polish Army against the German Army and the Red Army in September 1939. The campaign then progresses to Norway, and your units change to British/Commonwealth ones.
- Finally fixed that irritating main menu bug (where if you clicked back out of the campaign menu the buttons greyed out
- Removed text from Campaign buttons. Was just too hard to see anyway
- Lowered armour values of some bunkers
- Added a number of new units for above campaigns (Brewster Buffalo and Supermarine Walrus for the Commonwealth, NE-1 Grasshopper, F6F-5 Hellcat and B-25J Mitchell for the US, A5M2 Claude and G3M Nell for the Japanese, Curtiss Hawk 75 for France)
- New Font (from Stalingrad)
- General bugfixes (all fixes from R7 Patches included naturally)
Something to note is that only the Korean War Campaigns and the Commonwealth Campaigns have new intro videos (and the Korean War Campaigns have no outro). The Komintern, Axis and US Campaigns use stock ones, and the Spanish Civil War Campaigns have none. These will all be added/replaced in time; making new videos is just a time consuming process.
As always, please report bugs to the discord channel. I've done my absolute best to make this release as bug free as possible, but I am just one man. Anything you can help with is much appreciated. Discord link is Discord.gg
Anyway, enjoy
