Good choice!

The Type-59D is used as a infantry support tank by the PLA, and thus, it makes sense to put this venerable machine into this mod as non-doctrinal AFV.

I hope the price is low enough to spam these nice tanks against its enemies!

Also, I wonder if the smoke grenade launchers are really functional? I hope so, since then it would make a true Sherman equivalent.

Haha! If badass tank such as the M1A2 Abram come down upon you with its 120mm rifle gun, you gonna need the smoke launcher to get out of sight form that beast!

I don't think the tank will be cheap though. By the way, did you say it is a infantry support tank? So its design for anti infantry role only? I think the Type-59D will be a Jack of all trader tank, good at everything but bad at dedicated role.

The Type 59D will dearly need the smoke launchers, if it wants to prevail in lategame... But the Tank itself would be the Chinese equivalent of the Stryker MGS, since both of them are using the same 105mm rifled gun. Only that the Type 59D obviously enjoys more armour.

And as infantry support tank, as used by the PLA, it doesent mean that it will be used solely as anti-infantry role. The Type 59D simply wont survive an open field battle, thus it was for the PLA more reasonable to field it alongside their Infantry as Stug equivalents, for direct armoured firesupport. And in this role, these old Tanks will fulfill their roles quite good.

Very well written, and exactly what we want to achieve with this change from Type 96 to Type 59D.

T-80 is too gay for a basic MBT, that Russian tank is a whole lot superior than the Type-59d, which based on the T-54/55. And that beauty ain't come cheap, its more expensive than a Leapord 2A6, cause of its speed, and better protection. It also look sick!

Wow, good research. I never thought of that, so it has good anti-armor and anti-infantry capability but lack superior armor panetration power and that US AT weapon can make a living nightmare of an unsupported Type 59D.

Correct, the majority of Type 59 tanks that still in PLA service are in the StuG units, be more accurately, the SPG units, they are replaced in tank fighting duty by ZTZ-96s, which are sufficient to fight with tanks like old M1A1s, but NOT advanced M1A2s. According to rumor, in 2012, they will retire thousands of them (not confirmed, but still have some value since this rumor exists in the troops).
