This mod aims to bring the Royal Hungarian Army and the Red Army to Company of Heroes based around the late-war (1944-1945) Eastern Front. Our mod will be a total conversion and the existing VCOH factions will be replaced. Our primary goal is to deliver a fun and balanced experience without straying too much from the path of realism. In addition, we have plans to add a "realistic" mode later on. For the mod, we plan to include battles such as the Battle of Debrecen, the Battle of Torda and even the Siege of Budapest, among many others. We will see you on the battlefield!

Hi everyone,

I'm from Hungary but for the sake of understandability, I'll stick to english on Moddb. This mod caught my interest, and the content so far is very promising. I have always been interested in Hungary's armament and weapon projects in WW2, and it's sad that no game ever really featured them.

I noticed you guys included several planned-only or experimental vehicles (Tas tank / Jagdtas, Zrínyi I), but I'm certain you guys know there are several more oddities out there. Is there a chance they will be included in the mod sometime ?

Specifically:

- Straussler V4 (light amphibious tank, experimental, 1 built)
- Buzogányvetős Toldi (Toldi with "mace thrower" rocket launchers, improvised conversion, 1 built)
- Toldi Páncélvadász (Toldi tank-hunter, experimental)
- Toldi III (an improved variant of the Toldi IIa, experimental, 1 built)
- Turán Önjáró Löveg (Turan self-propelled gun, 3-4 built)
- Vezér Turán ("Leader" Turan, command vehicle but has only machine guns, 5-10 built)
- Turán III (Turan with extra armor and long barrel, experimental, 1 built)
- Lehel Csapatszállító (Lehel Troop Carrier - converted from Nimrod chassis, has a machine gun, experimental, 1 built)
- Szebenyi-féle Páncélvadász (Type Szebenyi tank-hunter - a Nimrod variant with heavy gun, planned only)
- Buzogányvető ("mace thrower", short-ranged heavy anti-tank/frag rocket batteries, used in the hundreds)
- Lidérc ("nightmare", heavy rocket, only 50-80 were built)
- Rakétás Zrínyi I (Zrinyi I with rocket launchers, experimental, 1 built)

I also found references for several more experimental vehicles, but I am uncertain about the sources' reliability:

- Tas Csapatszállító (Tas Troop Carrier)
- Buzogányvetős Lehel (Lehel with "mace thrower" rockets)

EDIT: I'm also curious regarding the infantry, will we see horse-riding Hussars, and anti-tank soldiers armed with the 44M Kézi Rakétavető (handheld rocket launcher) ?

For those who don't know what these are, here are some links with pictures:

Toldi III
(the changes are difficult to notice - the barrel is slightly longer, the armor a bit thicker, it has much better engines and turning capabilities; maybe improvised armor could be an upgrade option - second picture - as there were attempts to reinforce Toldi tanks this way)

Leader Turan
(it's essentially the same as a Turan II, just with larger antennaes; note that the tank gun is a fake, it couldn't really shoot as it had so much radio equipment that there was no space for ammo)

Turan self-propelled gun
(105 mm gun on Turan chassis; it should be noted that these were made in Czechslovakia, not Hungary)

43M Lehel trool carrier
(there were two "variants": the Lehel S for carrying wounded personnel and the Lehel Á for pioneers. The only real difference was in the troop equipment they carried - medical supplies and carrier beds for the Lehel S, and tools and other supplies for the Lehel Á; the Lehel Á was also fitted with a machine gun. They could be converted into one another under 10 minutes, really.)

Szebeny-type tank hunter
(named after György Szebenyi, hungarian engineer; this Nimrod variant would had been highly overloaded, but it would have featured a 80mm Bofors gun and a fully enclosed, albeit intraversible turret)

(it is possible that the rocket pods were the same, or at least similar to those of the German nebelwerfer)

Lidérc heavy rocket
(these were supposed to be heavy anti-air rockets, but failure on the tests and the onslaught of Soviet armor resulted in them being used up as anti-tank weapons)

44M handheld rocket launcher
(first pic: the weapon, second pic: the ammo; essentially a 60mm Hugarian mix between the american bazooka and the German panzerschrekk; it was fine, but it didn't measure up to later panzerschreks/bazookas in terms of penetrating power)

...so ? Any chances ? :)

Greetings,

First of all, only a few experimental things are planned, like the Tas and the Tas Rohamlöveg (Assault gun).

We also have plans to include the 44M Buzogányvető in a later version, but right now the PaK40 will have its place. We have permission to use Eastern Front's 44M Rocket Launcher, and it will be included in the beta too.

Unfortunately, the others are not planned, as the Tas variants are already a bit too much and are therefore included as reward elements only.

Thanks for the post, it's nice to see people being concerned about the Hungarian part of WW2.

Thanks for the asnwer. The minor axis nations' research projects are hardly ever looked into, which is sad. Hungary deserves a special mention though, it had more (mostly failed) projects than all other minor axis nations combined :P

Perhaps a few vehicles could be included that made it to the testing phase but were discontionued due to lack of materials and/or production capability - beside the Zrínyi I, the Lehel and Turán III come to mind. I agree that some of the designs and possibilities are way too far-fetched (imagine a Toldi III with extra armor and buzogányvető launchers :D ), but some minor breaks from reality would help round out the faction against the heavier Allied/German/Soviet units if the Tas variants will be reward only. That's just my idea, though.

Looking forward to Buzogányvető launchers anyway :)
