CWC is a C&C Generals Zero Hour Total Conversion and also works with "The First Decade". It takes place from 1980-1989 and features realistic units from the 80's. We want CWC to be a mixture of realism and fun. CWC is more realistic than vanilla Generals, with real life weapon systems and side specific characteristics. CWC offers 2 factions: Russia and USA. The Russians tend to use tanks and artillery (for example: T-72 / T-80, BM-21, 2S1 only to mention a few) while the USA rely on aircraft and high tech units (for example: F-15, F-16, F-117, A-10 etc.). Also we we have a lot of infantry in the game, not all of them are just cannon fodder.

This mod is how Generals should have been. The quality of the work done in CWC is remarkable. I followed this mod ever since I first saw it in 2005, the first things that caught my eye was BMPs floating on water, just like in real life. The only game I had seen that in was Operation Flashpoint.

So began a long wait, I visited the CWC website every week looking for updates, and every time there was an update it gave me a smile. I eventually registered at the CWC forums and posted a few posts. My wait was shorter than others though, some have followed this mod since 2004, it was eventually released in 2008. This mod was the first mod that came with a working, proper launcher with auto updates!

This mod and a few others are the reason why I have Generals Zero Hour installed. With it's original soundtrack, realistic battles, voice acting, missions and smart AI even the references to Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis gives CWC a special place in the C&C modding world.

The CWC team have strived for anything but perfection, just like Blizzard does with their games. 4 years in the making, 2 years with patches and still CWC gets patches every now and then despite the CWC team saying they are done with the mod.

CWC is almost perfect, what keeps it away from true perfection are the limitations of the Generals engine and those cannot be addressed, they are just small annoyances.

Despite this CWC is the largest and most polished Generals mod in existence! The CWC well deserves the mark I give this excellent mod!

May CWC return in a newer engine one day!


Best mod for Generals and pretty unique because there's not much cold war era mods or games. Well balanced, accurate and designed, its a must have.

Very detailed and high quality mod featuring singleplayer and multiplayer, attempting to make the game way more realistic - while the NATO/US vs USSR scenario is alt-history, the units present are based on real vehicles of the period. Everything from tech trees and mechanics to environments and interface is reworked, which is a great amount of effort.

In general, the thing feels a lot like Company of Heroes or World in Conflict in many ways - there are areas to capture, infantry is crucial but only good when in cover... only problem is that thing is quite micro-intensive. As a matter of fact, with the game's interface being rather inflexible, it's a major pain going trough different unit types to order them to go prone and such, which really takes away from tactics as you mostly have to deal with ordering infantry to go prone and such a bit too often. It's a great mod, but while it attempts to imitate some wonderful RTS/RTTes, it borrows their aspects which are really cumbersome to execute in Generals.
