Lol a sherman i didnt no that the russians had a sherman keep up the good work
The Red Army had over 4,000 Shermans.
um the russians had lend lease shermans, stuarts, churchils, m3 lees, and a ton of other vehicles
Under the Lend Lease Act, any enemy of Germany would receive support from the USA. Upon the entry of both the USSR and the United States into the war, the US began sending many vehicles - among them the Sherman - along with ammunition and other equipment. If I remember, I think even some Russians had been issued the Thompson sometime throughout the war.
Yeah, But no Ammo was given for those thompsons OR at least not enough ammo to use them a lot.
Shermans were actually disliked by Russian crews and generally were not used for front-line services.
Yeah actually vsemp Shermans were very well received in Russian service and were used extensively on the front-lines.
I don't know where you received that bogus info (perhaps pseudo-german propaganda?) but there was even a book written on the subject by a Russian Sherman tank commander, he praised their reliability, speed, and transmission. (transmission being one of the most horrible things about the T34)
The name of the book is "Commanding the Red Army's Sherman Tanks: The World War II Memoirs of Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Loza"
No. I've read a memory of another tank commander, and, yeah, he did complain.
Thing you gotta remember about the Shermans is they were much roomier than the cramped T-34s, and they had a three man turret unlike the early t-34s. Easy to see why someone who has to ride in tanks for longer periods of time would like the Sherman better
No, you mean the Grant ,Grants were disliked by russian Crews, they called them a thomb for five comrades or so.
The red army had shermans??
The reason we gave the Russian the Sherman was that early in the war they needed armored units to combat the German Panzer. The Sherman was fine against Panzer 3 and fours, but with the Panther and Tiger tank, the Sherman was a zipo pack, always lighting on the first strike.
Really depends on the model of Sherman, late war models that had used wet storage for ammo were one of the safest tanks to be in when a penetrating shot occurred. I don't know if the Shermans sent to the USSR were ever updated though.
they were the shermans which were sent to aid USSR were upgraded with a longer and more powerful turret in the USSR..dont know about the armor of the tank though
it wasant the ammo that light up, it was the fuel tank and since they were using gasoline....yup it light up fast
Completely and utterly wrong.
The gasoline-based engine of the Sherman was actually very well protected. The main problem was that tank commanders were overloading the tank with extra shells that nullified the wet-ammo storage, so when they took a hit the thing went up like a bomb.
yeah but they had T-34.Why do they need shermans?
cos,yes sherman have big armor and really cool weapons,but in USSR T-34 was best tanks,so i think maybe they just take parts of sherman?
T-34 production hadn't gone into full swing.
okay this is how it works.........early in the war when Russians still have no Production of tanks the Americans have made a deal to give them some tanks for early help then months later the Russian Tanks are in Full Production Swing(they just kept coming like they say) and its not captured...how the hell can it be captured because they are allied with American so no fight-fight to each other.
i can see most of you guys here are only in into games,please go read some information about World War 2 not just like "why Sherman when there is T34"
hey, i know all about the lend lease act, but i guess some people don't bother with history :/
@PhilippinePride
The allies of ww2 were: USA,UK(Related nations) and Russia. They worked altogether against germany to put a end to the war. So maybe its like that. The americans lent the russians a hand by giving them their tanks. Yeah kinda like that.
@hire2for1
Im trying to guess that the related nation were the commonwealth faction?
Also the Polish and Free French forces were also on the Allies side I heard. Some of the French Colonial empire went to Vichy and some went to Free French.
A firefly could however easily hit a panther with its 17 pounder turret. But again, i also think those models was some of the first and not updated.
But a Sherman wouldn't stand a chance against a Tiger. Even the Pershing needed to hit a King Tiger many times before it would actually die. But the were also VERY rare.
This looks awesome in-game! :D
Red army gained shermans VIA the Land Lease giving Russians alot of machines.
USSR also recieved 1 or 2 pershing tanks
I heard some russians loved the sherman. there was alcohol in every tank! and there was more comfort. I guess the sherman aint too bad as long as a tiger doesnt appear
actually there were more Shermans with 75mm gun rather than 76mm guns in the land lease help. since the sherman with 76mm entered service only in 1944 but the landlease began in 41/42 already.... and msotr shermans were sent to russia in the early yers when the sherman didn have the 76mm gun at this time.
shermans were mostley used to win the war for allied (used by americans)
