If more war materiel was needed why didn't they take them apart and make new, better vehicles out of the parts?

Because that would take effort that would have better use somewhere else...

Because the USA took severe hits during the GLA attacks in 2020 forcing them to rethink how to take care of outdated tanks and started to follow a prinicple which is very common in the Eastern/Chinese states to modernize vehicles then pumping out billions to create a new chassis which in the end has the same abilities. Of course they still develope state of the art technology but they stopped to throw away everything...aaaaand it is just a game. Read the TL;DR: part :)

Because its alot cheaper to refit a older tank than to melt it and build a new one from scratch. Hence why the USA still uses ***** like the M113.

True, Hell they haven't actually built a new abrams hull in a decade or 2. They just strip them down and rebuild them....

If it ain't broke don't throw it away. (If only the Army actually thought this way)

Description

"CHEVALIER TANK"

Once the Paladin Mk3 project became the new advanced tank for the U.S. Army, the old Mk2 had no place left.
But due to rising need for war materiel, small tank brigades of the Paladin MK2's were created and called Steel Legions.
Each one of these could be loaded and deployed anywhere on the battlefields via air drops where additional armor support is needed.
The tank itself got refitted with improved equipment, and additional mounted minigun as well as an improved version of the old point defense system against incoming missiles. Due to all these changes a whole new tank was born - the Chevalier. (M70A1 Chevalier)

TL;DR:
The old Paladin is making a comeback as part of a new special power for USA that drops 3 Chevalier Tanks anywhere on the battlefield.
Why? Because we still love the old bucket of steel and wanted to revive it.
