Clone Wars is an armed conflict between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. It lasted for three years, beginning with the Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY, ending the mission of Darth Vader on Mustafarze in 19 BBY. Its name comes from the soldiers of Kamino clones, which are the backbone of the Grand Army of the Republic. Republic forces commanded by the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, Palpatine, and the functions of command in the army played the members of the Jedi Order. Separatists led by Count Dooku, and the chief military commander was General Grievous.
