Not to sound amateur here, but what's the purpose of the Zeltbahn? Besides being a special unit.
Zeltbahn is rain coat, it can also be used a tent shelter.

It was a triangle like coat/poncho which could fuse with two others to build a tent. Normally it was rolled in the soldier's backpack.
you are wrong it was used as a poncho every one in a squad carried one it needs 4 tent quarters to build 1 Zeltbahn tent. it was either like you said rolled up and ghooked up to the Y-Strap in other ocasions they just pushed it in between the y-strap zeltbahn was also diffrent camo for Waffen-SS Most commonb Zelt camos where Splintertarn B and A - B Was mostly used by the FJ / Also the Waffen ss used the Plain tree Camo variant of the Zelt.
