a redux mod that aims to reinvent the frosted landscapes of carnivores ice age.
inspector here,
for the past year i've been developing my skills as a modder and creator, in which i am now proud to announce a new mod im working on called carnivores: Wintertide! below is just a short Q&A so y'all can get what a better idea of the project
what is it?
Wintertide is a partial remake of carnivores ice age to have a more unique identity and feel more in home of the other carnivores games. i say partial as certain elements of the original will return such as the maps and some weapons, however they will get touch ups to standout a bit further and be unique. the animals themselves however will get totally new models and designs to better reflect the exaggerated, alien yet vintage styles of the previous games.
why make this mod?
well two main reasons why, first is that i never liked the official ice age game to begin with, it felt like it had washed out all the interesting and intriguing elements of the first two games and actively removed any form of memorability. i especially hated the active lack of creative choices for the roster, as they held very little elements of prehistory, and were simply generic animals associated with stereotypical colder environments. so i wanted to make and direct a mod that can serve as a better canonical option for players that can fit the first two games better with it's own personality.
how big will the mod be?
as of now the intent is to make it small and more digestible, with very few newer additions to the roster and no new maps planned. i would say imagine it being like the mobile ports but with more touch ups visually.
what will the roster be like?
well i wont reveal the roster now, it will definitely be "interesting" to make. i will confirm however that some og animals may not return and be replaced by more interesting and better fitting animals that i think y'all would prefer to hunt.
when will it be released?
when it gets done, i will admit i made the mistake of releasing my first mod sanctuary on a fixed date which had several issues at launch, however i want to take this mod more casual development wise and not have it be set on a specific time. i would like to have some substantial work done by the end of the year however, but i wont guarantee a release date any time soon.
what is it's canonicity to other projects?
well to make things clear this does not have any canonical connections to the plutyrian cycle, i shouldn't be making this statement but some people already have asked and i have to make it clear. otherwise the mod doesnt hold any connection to other mods, including my previous mod sanctuary. it is stand alone that is intended to retcon the original carnivores ice age.
anyways i won't reveal much until i finish more progress, so i hope y'all are excited to see more!

Since this'll use Modders Edition, will there be any kind of hostile underwater ambient like the giant shark Megalodon or some kind of prehistoric whale?
there's definitely plans to add a specific sea predator which has a model already. but it's not from the cenozoic ;)
Is it some Mesozoic sea reptile?
Knowing what's been revealed so far, I'm guessing the other animals from Ice Age that'll be carried over to this are Archaeopteryx, Brontotherium, and the Yeti?
yes, but some wont return for this remake.
I'm guessing those that won't be carried over are the Wild Boar, Wolf, Woolly Rhino, Giant Deer, Bear, and Pig?
Again, I'm just speculating going off by Saurian Target's C:IA review.
the problem with the woolly rhino isn't its existents (unlike the wolf and wild boar) its the fact it a reskin of a normal rhino from another game, if it got a new model to make it actually look like a woolly rhino then it would be a great addition to wintertide.
I hope all of the og animals (execpt for the pig and wild boar) get carried over with the tender loving care they deserve.
I'm just speculating going off Saurian Target's Carnivores Ice Age review video.
I'm honestly fine if some of the OG animal roster don't make it into this, a lot of CIAs creatures were kinda stock, boring, and uninteresting.
I see
Although I personally hope to see the more "generic" animals get swapped out for more "prehistoric" reconstructions. (i.e. bear and the wolf are replaced with Arctodus and Aenocyon (Dire Wolf), respectively.
Perhaps I should've made that clear in my previous reply.
