Tomorrow evening. You have to leave the country in the next 24 hours... some important business. Suddenly you realize you have forgotten crucial files and your passport at work. Since you really need all this, you will have to drive there, hoping that there is still someone to let you enter... if not this will be an illegal entrance. This will take two minutes and then you'll be back home for dinner.

Follow those steps and you should be just fine!

Step 1 - Installing Amnesia: TDD

Install the latest version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
It is the base that will allow Forbidden Trip starting.

  • If you use Steam, EGS, GOG, you will have the last version.
  • If you have an older retail version be sure that you install the most recent patch as well!


Warning - before installing Forbidden Trip

If you already have Amnesia: The Dark Descent installed, be sure that no other mods, custom stories or addons are installed as well!
Otherwise you might have some in-game errors with certain props that have been corrected for Forbidden Trip but are still outdated for older mods.
If you are unsure that your game installation is clean, please uninstall it, remove any left files, then reinstall it.
This is really important to follow this step!


Step 2 - Getting the Forbidden Trip package

Download the latest Forbidden Trip zip package on Mod DB.
Normally your system should be able to open it with the default archiver program.
In case it does not open, please download and use the free 7-zip (7-zip.org).


Step 3 - Installing Forbidden Trip

This is very simple: when the zip archive is opened, you should see a "Forbidden_Trip" folder.
You just have to drag and drop this into the correct folder:

  • for Steam, GOG, EGS, it should be at the root of your Amnesia: The Dark Descent installation folder.

  • for retail editions it should be inside "Amnesia - The Dark Descent\redist\".

⬆ Here, "Forbidden_Trip" should be copied inside the "redist" folder.

Step 4 - Playing FT

When FT is successfully copied in the right folder, open "Forbidden_Trip".
You will see different launchers, select the one you want to start.
You can play using Windows, Linux, preferably in 64 bit.
For macOs, Amnesia is only designed for 32 bit systems; you won't be able to play on a M1 or M2 sadly. 😕

Note: Windows & Linux have been successfully tested but macOs was not.
It should theoretically work but any feedback for Mac users is very welcome, in case it needs fixing!


Step 5 - The most important… have fun!
