Additions and changelog for the new version of Black & White 2: Redux

Hello everyone,

another version is coming closer and will be released within the next 2 weeks (maybe next few days?) and will be released 24th of april. It contains 5 complete new quests, all quests from Black & White 2 which weren't included yet, readdition of fortified walls, and most importantly 3 new campaign lands.

New Campaign Lands

Lets start with the new lands. There are 3 new lands which take place after you defeat the aztecs for the first time. Similar to Battle of the Gods you fight the aztec god which has control over all undead creatures. This fight will first take place on the japanese land where the aztec god starts sacrificing villagers, then you'll head to a completely new norse land and finally revisit the greek homeland.

Balance Changes and Improvements

Patch 1.4 also comes with a lot balance changes to town building. Mainly many building costs were changed and those from epics equalized. Also thanks to User Dhatri villagers received many changes which add more immersion and uniqueness to villagers of each tribe.

Besides, skirmish received updates to make it more stable, AI got smarter when attacking a town, many bugs about enemy gods were fixed and difficulties adjusted.

Additions

  • Added land 11, land 12 and land 13 (inspired by BotG) to the campaign
    • Revisit the first japanese land as the aztec god steamed down all towns with his undead armies
    • Explore a new norse land which is on mercy of the aztec god
    • Reconquer the greek homeland as you invade the last bastion of the aztecs
  • Added tooltips for mini epics
  • Re-added fortified walls
  • Added some content which was scrapped out of original BW2
    • Tombs: You can find graves all over the lands now. I think these were meant as an easteregg by lionhead but the script for it was unfinished. I implemented it in the Redux mod
    • Marauders Side Quest: A side quest which was basically finished but scrapped for some reason. I added it in land 4
    • Singing Pengions (Cows): Also a scrapped side quest. You can find it in the new land 12
    • Added a scrapped quest to land 3
  • Some quests from Battle of the Gods rescripted for Black & White 2. They are on land 11
    • Skeleton Bashing
    • Riddle of the Rocks

AI

  • The AI will now split up its platoons much better while attacking a town
  • Enemy gods now throw less miracles at lower difficulties
  • Skirmish: Improved AI unit spread in town
  • Skirmish: AI will build it's town slower now
  • Improved AI of some platoons in 3rd aztec land
  • Changed patrol platoons and added some new behaivors to them
  • Enemy on second japanese land will now attack less in early game
  • Land4: Enemy AI won't use its creature to attack on easy difficulty and below

Balance

  • Reduced water wonder mana cost to 1750
  • Turned free-time desire a bit further down
  • Enemy migrations will now take longer to appear on the first japanese land depending on the difficulty
  • Lowered alignment the player gets for winning a land
  • Many Villagers changes to make them more individual and immersive. Thanks go to Dhatri:
    • Changed mana-rewards for sacrificing a villager. Females yield more mana than males; children yield more mana than adults
    • Movement-speeds for each tribe has been changed. Norse move the fastest; japanese move the slowest
    • Changed carrying-capacity of villagers. Norse carry the most, greek carry least. Reduced children+seniors-carrying-capacity by 50%
    • Females are better farmers, males better foresters etc.
    • Drunktime of villagers has been increased
  • Mini epics will now show a better warning before striking
  • Made thunderstorm spell more viable
  • Made comet spell a bit weaker
  • Reduced meteor wonder effect radius and mana costs
  • Reduced siege weapons health
  • Turned down field and houses production bonuses
  • Town population will now stagnate at 850 for each town
  • Changed precision of firerain spell
  • Changed given tree impressiveness to 50
  • Changed many wood/ore costs of buildings
  • Forests now grow much slower but water miracles are more efficient on them

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where music would fade out forever in last japanese land sometimes
  • Reverted creature max size to normal due to animation issues
  • Fixed a bug where AI platoons would try to attack a town for takeover more often than intended
  • Added animals to first japanese land and first aztec land (oops, forgot it before)
  • Fixed some localizations
  • Skirmish: Fixed minor towns not migrating if hometowns has been lost
  • Fixed enemy gods building epics which it doesn't own
  • Fixed enemy gods not changing towns immediately when it's captured
  • Fixed AI-Creatures in campaign not supporting platoons capturing a neutral town
  • Fixed a bug where you would gain the tribute for capturing the first aztec town in land 10 too late
  • Fixed some text of objectives
