Prerequisites

First make sure you've installed an unmodded Black & White 2. If you're sure you have an unmodded game start installing the patches:

  1. Download and install Patch 1.1 into your Black & White 2 folder.
  2. Download and install Patch 1.2 into your Black & White 2 folder.
  3. Now if you have installed the previous 2 patches, install the BW2 V1.4.2 Fan Patch.

Redux Installation Version 1.7 and higher

  1. Download the newest version at moddb
  2. Run the installer and follow its instructions by installing the mod into the bw2 folder (Example: D:\Black & White 2)

Redux Installation Prior Version 1.7

  1. First download the Lionhead Unstuffer and extract it to your Black & White 2 folder (For example "E:\Black & White 2").
After extracted open up the "LH Unstuffer Batch" and edit the 2 paths to point to the correct directory.
    For me it is "E:\Black & White 2" and "E:\Black & White 2\Data\Everything.stuff".

    Tut1

Then run the LH Unstuffer Batch and wait for completion.

  2. Since you're in the installation section for the old version download version 1.6.2 or prior at moddb
If you're looking for the installation guide for 1.7 and higher have a look at the top of this page
  3. Open the downloaded file using a program like WinRar or 7Zip and open the folder called "Main"

  4. Move the folders Audio, Data and Scripts to your Black & White 2 folder and replace all files

  5. Now the main installation is done and you can start the game. However have a look at step 10 since it can make the game more stable. Step 6 to 9 are completely optional.
If you want you can do the optional installation which unlocks some other features like an improved street-building-tool and some bug fixes. To do that open up the optional folder as seen in when you opened the downloaded file

  6. Move the BW2Mod.dll and the Patcher folder to your Black & White 2 folder

  7. Now you can close the .zip file and open up the Patcher folder in your Black & White 2 folder and copy the white.exe into the Patcher folder

  8. Open up the patcher folder and doubleclick the file called patcher.bat

  9. If your view looks like this and the whitemod.exe has been created you can close the window and move the whitemod.exe into your Black & White 2 folder

  10. Download a 4GB patch and apply it to the .exe with which you are starting the game (white.exe or whitemod.exe)

Updating the mod

Generally you don't need to reinstall the game completely, just repeat steps 2 - 9 under "Redux Installation".

What should I do if its not making the whitemod folder in the patcher folder?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Lionhead Studios\Black & White 2\Patcher>copy white.exe whitemod.exe
Access is denied.
0 file(s) copied.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Lionhead Studios\Black & White 2\Patcher>patch.exe --binary whitemod.exe 0<patch.txt
patch.exe: **** Can't find file whitemod.exe : No such file or directory

C:\Program Files (x86)\Lionhead Studios\Black & White 2\Patcher>pause

This is what I am getting everytime. Everything else has worked up till this point.

Try to run the .bat as admin, if it is still not working copy the Patcher folder to another drive like D:/ and make the whitemod there.

Worked though for some reason it isn't running the mod. Do you need BotG to make it work?

Still can't get the mod to run after following this. I'm wondering if I am missing a step or not.

Does it run with white.exe? If so you can run it using the white.exe.
If it's also not working with the white.exe try to install the game somewhere else than the C Partition.

Ok i figured out the last part that i screwed up and it was the Scripts folder. It wasnt loading the scripts and maps you made so I replaced the lands with the ones you made then copied the folder as a whole again and it worked for me.

Thanks for helping me out!

Using the other folder eventually worked for me if trying to use the admin doesn't work for the whitemod.exe creation. just do it in one of your downloads or my documents folder then it should be good copy the whole folder over afterwards to your B&W 2 folder.

If you can't edit the original path back in like step 1, right click the file go to properties, security and under every tab that shows up edit permissions to "approve all" and then it finally let me edit and save the notepad file properly.

Also its a bit of common sense but he doesn't mention it here: Copy the whitemod.exe or white.exe whichever you put the 4gb patch on back into the main black and white 2 folder or it won't find the game files properly.

For Boxhead78 I am probably just missing it but how do you get into the skirmish mode? EDIT: So once you get through the tutorial first two levels you will go to "god's playground" much like the island in creatures isle xpac from the first game this is where you can adjust difficulty, or do skirmishes for now.

There is quite a bit of content, maybe If I can find some time to record a few sessions I will try to make a brief video showing some of the differences. The first thing you will notice it the land is changed a fair bit, There are quite a few less trees to work with in the beginning of the Norse land and a few shab shacks in the way of great and glorious city building but its a nice twist and the extra quests are a nice touch.

Oops, I messed up the 1.6 zip. I'm uploading it again right now.

I've tried installing this multiple times now and every time I run it I get the error

"The code execution cannot proceed because binkw32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem"

Running as administrator doesn't help at all. What can I do to make this work?

Same issue as above:

"The code execution cannot proceed because binkw32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem"

I notice that I can see this file in the black and white folder but it does not appear to be able to locate it all the same.

Any help guys?

EDIT: I installed to the wrong location, Open file location on the desktop icon and then move the files over to the correct folder.

If you guys get weird mouse acting on slow movement, i recommend to set the mouse reading to 125HZ (8MS ) this will fix stuttering / lag on the movement :)
