How to install Buff and Shine 2.5:
1. Download Buff and Shine 2.5. This is a full install, so you do not need any other updates or the Broken Crescent files. You only need Medieval 2 Total War: Definitive Edition to run it.
2. Open the BCBuff2.5 file. This is a self-extracting file, but if it does not extract automatically, you can open it with 7zip. To do this, either right-click the file and select "Open with 7zip" or open the 7zip program and extract the file from there.
3. Place the BCBuff folder that you extracted in the Medieval 2 Total War\mods folder. To find this folder, open your Steam library, right-click Medieval 2 Total War, scroll down to "Manage", and click "Browse local files". This will open the Medieval 2 Total War folder, where you will find a folder called "mods". Double-click on this folder and place the BCBuff folder inside.
4. Inside the BCBuff folder, you will find a BCBuff application and a Broken_Crescent_kingdomsBuff_and_Shine_launch batch file. Clicking on either of these will launch the mod.
5. If the game crashes regularly, you can try installing the 4gb_patch. This file is included in the BCBUFF folder. Launch the patch application and it will ask you to find the Medieval II Total War executable file. Direct it to the Medieval II Total War folder and select medieval2.exe. Click "Open" and the patch will be installed.
6. If the mod still won't run, you can try the following:
A) Copy and paste the medieval2.exe application and rename it kingdoms.exe. Then, try running the BCBuff application.
B) Go to the Medieval II Total War\mods folder and find the crusades folder. Rename it crusades1. Then, find the BCBuff folder and rename it crusades. Go to your Steam library and launch Medieval II Total War. You should see a list of the base game and expansions to play. Select "Medieval II Total War: Crusades" to launch Buff and Shine.

Great work, much appreciated. I've been playing this mod, and its many version, for years now, very grateful for the continuing support.

I'd like to offer some inputs on the Indian factions since this mod seems to have active development going on still.

I would recommend to remove the Paramara faction, and replace it with the Solankis. The Paramaras ruled Malwa in the interior of India, and as such were not actively fighting against the Turkic and Indo-Islamic factions till the establishment of the Delhi Sutlanate. While the Solankis ruled Gujarat in Western India, which is fully included in the Map, and had more interactions with the factions present in the map.

The Solankis of Gujarat waged wars against both the Ghurids and the Chahmanas, defeating the first Ghurid invasion at the first Battle of Abu, and also holding off the Chahmanas to a stalemate in many battles.

The Solankis also offer a more competitive Indian faction, since Gujarat in Western India was a hub of both horse trade and breeding, as such they were known to have good and plentiful cavalry, which allowed thema and their successor dynasty, the Vaghelas, to resist the the Sultanate expansion for a century till the ealry 14th century.

Suggestions are always appreciated, I am just limited in what I can produce without a competent modeller or other programmers. I would like to adjust many of the factions, units and events that either could be done better or different but due to limitations won't see the light of day.
I'd be happy to change the name and name of units but the change would amount to nothing more than skin deep. Is that still be worthwhile?

Hi, I am playing Khorasan, and the game consistently crashes between turn 83 and 84. At this point I am getting the messages about the mongols and the last one is about Balasagun that is being besieged and is asking for help (?). However I have already eliminated the Kara-khitai faction and the whole north east corner (incl. Balasagun) is under my control, so maybe there is something in the mongol script causing the crash? let me know if you need a save to check.

Apologies that sounds like a real pain! If you could share the save that would be fab.
Otherwise could you go into your : Medieval II Total War\logs and open the bc_log inside the text file if you look up error it will tell you what the crash was caused by.

Same thing happened in my abbasid caliphate campaign between 82 and 83 turns. I can't go any further because of the crash during ai turn.

Yeah, the mongol event caused a crash. I've fixed it and will upload a patch this weekend.

PATCH has been released see the most recent files.

Where's the patch for the Mongol Invasion (just got stuck at 83 as well)? Also, thanks for keeping this MOD alive! It is one of my favorite eras and you do it justice. If you are taking suggestions, may I offer one? For the original BC there was a patch created to allow for Muslim princesses. I don't know if that is still a possibility or even historically accurate but for me it added an additional layer to the game. Appreciate all your work

It would be cool - I had some stability issues with the changes and regularly got CTD issues when incorporating it into the mod. That was ages ago though. I might give it a look over again in a while.
Cheers

I dont know why, but when i play as paramara rajputs and trying to fight against any faction in the field the game crash every time. First time that happened against rebel army near my city, second time against chauhan rajputs.

Damn, the Elephant Mercs are crashing the game. I'll fix it but would recommend not recruiting them at the moment. Elephants recruited from towns are fine just merc ones atm.

Hello mate! This is the most awesome mode ever!
But can you add a growth building? I mean Tsardoms have Horse mill, SS have Wells and BC don't have any. My growth (with Volga Bulgars) is between +0,5% and +1%. I know that getting +1% more won't get me to metropolis, but at least give me the illusion that will get there eventually.
Best Wishes, Dimitar Nedev.

Hi Dimitar,

I've made some small changes with the recent patch - The Tolerance building will give population growth and the Alchemist Guild (which now spawns and is called the Physicians Guild) will give a big population growth.

Mod crashes on Faction Selection screen when clicking on too many factions

Hi, that is a MTW2 issue unfortunately. We've improved it from others where they crash after 2-6 factions. The best way is not to click on to many at once sorry!

Thank you for your excellent work, quick question what difficulty is the mod designed for to be the most realistic and immersive? Thank you.

I generally play it VH/VH, the AI will have anti-player bias on then but not to the extremes of modern Total war. The optional mechanics at the beginning of each game add to the immersion.
Otherwise, play to the level that you find fun EASY will give you a big bonus. If you need to suss it out.

I hope there's no CTDs when going to custom battles. The previous version crashed every time when going into custom battles or picking a campaign faction, I never even played campaign, that's how annoying it was. Hope it is fine now.

P.S Immediately when going to Grand Campaign, it crashes. It doens't even load the selection screen. I've applied the 4GB patch God knows how many times at this point.

Why doesn't Turanshah invade Yemen in 1174 as it happened historically?
