Eighteen years have passed since FreeSpace 2 and the destruction of Capella, and the shattered colonies of man are finally ready to re-open the jump node to Earth. As the Alliance teeters on the verge of total social collapse, the Security Council deploys the elite 14th Battlegroup to re-establish contact with Earth, and young pilot Samuel Bei finds himself once more under his estranged father's command. Age of Aquarius describes the journey of the 14th Battlegroup as its mission to the Blue Planet goes shockingly wrong. War in Heaven takes place eighteen months after the events of Blue Planet: Age of Aquarius and details the final stages of the civil war between Sol and the rest of her colonies: a war without good or evil, only shades of gray. Built at the cutting edge of the FreeSpace Open engine, Blue Planet is a fan-made conclusion to the FreeSpace saga, a story of sacrifice, triumph, and destiny, and one of the most beloved FreeSpace mods of all time.
Blue Planet is a fan-made FreeSpace story, set 18 years after the events of FreeSpace 2. Featuring epic missions, full voice acting, in-engine cutscenes, a custom AI, a new species, new warships and fighters, and thousands of words of new fiction, Blue Planet is one of the most acclaimed FreeSpace campaigns ever made. Age of Aquarius is the first chapter of the saga. A working copy of FreeSpace 2 and FreeSpace Open 3.6.12, including an Inferno build, are required. Installation instructions are below the cut.

Cool.. glad I spotted this.. Downloading now.. thanks for the hard work...
Awesome! Hope you enjoy. If you have any trouble getting it working, let us know. Blue Planet is bug-free but the FreeSpace Open install process can be a bit confusing sometimes.
will this work with 3.6.12? and what is "inferno build"
Yes, this will work on .12 without a hitch. An Inferno build is a special engine build with more slots for ships and weapons, which will become the standard build in FSO 3.7 and onwards. Get it from the release post at HLP: Hard-light.net
Amazing mod exept i keep getting messages that a few classes of ships was not found.
I used the special FSO by turey.
You need to use an INFERNO build of the engine. Get them via Turey's, or here: Hard-light.net
Always be sure to read the installation instructions!
Soon all builds will be Inferno builds and you won't need to worry about this any more. It will be a good day.
If i use inferno build, then many other mods will not work.
How do i solve that?
How do i finish mission in wich 2 waves of shivan Battle cruisers attack and unknown ships help destroy the second wave. I am not able to destroy the second wave.
Incorrect. Using an Inferno build will not cause problems with any other mod. Inferno builds work exactly as normal builds do, but with several expanded engine limitations. The only issue is that you can't transfer your old pilot files to an Inferno build.
You could play any mod released on an Inferno build with no problems.
Try playing the mission in question with an Inferno build. See if it works.
i am a bit of an idiot and get confused easily when it comes to computers. this is one of my favorite games, and i would love to play this. WOULD someone please help me install it.
Sure thing.
Step 1. Install FreeSpace2. If you don't have a copy, buy one for $6 from GoodOldGames.com
Step 2. Install FreeSpace Open. You can do that here: Fsoinstaller.com. Make sure to download all the files marked 'Blue Planet' in the installer.
Step 3. You're almost ready to go. Download a special Inferno SSE2 build here: Hard-light.net. Unzip the file to your /FreeSpace2/ folder, then select the build ending in -r or -release using the 'Browse' button in the FreeSpace Open Launcher.
Step 4. Enable all the options under the 'graphics' tab in the launcher except 'enable mipmapping' and 'disable scale window to movies.' Go to the 'gameplay' tab and enable, at the very least, 'Use 3D Ship Selection' and 'Use 3D weapon selection'.
Step 5. Go to the 'mod' tab. Select 'Blue Planet'.
Step 6: Enjoy! If you have any problems, report them on Hard Light Productions, Blue Planet forum.
thank you so much
Did everything work okay?
actually no. I'm going to reinstall FS2 and redownload it all over again. i really want to play it. If this doesnt work what should i do?
this may be a stupid question. but is there any specified place I need to install the mod?
Read the release post carefully. It explains exactly what to do with the files. There is a handy checklist found here: Hard-light.net
Is there a version of this for mac, and if so where and how can I get it? I already have Freespace 2 and the inferno.
Thanks!
Yes, this will run perfectly fine on Mac. Just install it as a mod in your /FreeSpace 2/ directory, along with the 3.6.12 MediaVPs, a 3.6.12 Inferno SSE2 executable, and the original Blue Planet.
1. This looks amazing (and I've read great things, too)!
2. I'm not completely sure how to get the Freespace Open Installer to work. I'm selecting the directory that FS2 is in, but then it says a "config file could not be downloaded". Should I proceed anyway? Does this have something to do with me having downloaded FS2 from GoG.com and it therefore being located in that folder?
Thanks!
Try moving your FreeSpace 2 install to C:\Games\FreeSpace2. Any luck?
If not you can do a manual install by the instructions on the forum - but I believe the Installer should work. Sign up and HLP account and we can give you further help there.
(It's worth it!)
My friends I am glad you continued on the tradition of Freespace. It was the best scifi space series that has ever been made. I was sad to see V never continued it.
But I'm glad you did.
ok, not too sure if I've done something daft, but for some reason, both Age of Aquarius and War in Heaven work fine... apart from the fact that glide just doesn't seem to want to work. I've bound a key to 'glide when pressed' and know that you can't glide whilst flying original FS2 campaigns. However I know you should be able to in AoA, but nothing happens when I try.
Anyone with any ideas?!?
Other than this issue, I have to say that I think Blue Planet is astounding! The effort and skill that has gone into this project is massively appreciated. Thanks for keeping FS2 alive :)
Thanks.
Hello Lambda, sorry for the delay.
There was at one time a special glide feature pack for AoA. See if you can track it down on hard light.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hiya, thanks for the reply
Yeah I've seen one out there, but thought that glide came with Blue Planet as standard, and that I'd somehow done something stupid, like like not checked a blindingly obvious checkbox somewhere! :)
Thanks again :)
It might take a little work to get set up. Post on HLP if you need any help.
um i need some help i keep getting a error message saying im missing OpenAL32.dll can any one please help
Download and install OpenAL, you can find it by googling.
Hey there...
I have got some problems with the installation :'(
Because i dont know, where i can download that: "fs2_open_3_6_17_SSE2_BP.exe"
I only have
"fs2_open_3_6_12_RC3r_INF_SSE3"
and the normal freespace2 open file.
I am just too stupid to understand that -.-
Can anyone help me please?
I have got all MediaVPs_3612 for the normal game, but... I am too stupid for that installation...
I like to play this game :(
Okay sorry i know now, how to make that^^
But i cant play the Game :(
I start the launcher with fs2_open_3_6_17_SSE2_BP.exe, but i can only play the normal fs2 campaign... I have all mediavps_3612 installed and selected as mod, but i simply cant play AoA...
Can anyone help me?
What files (except of the Game itself) i need to play and in which folder i have to copy them?
