In the morning of December 16th,1944 German Forces launched a surprise attack in the dense Ardennes Forest in Belgium and Luxemburg. Allied High command is hastily rushing re-enforcements to the area, to counter the surprise attack and prevent them from crossing Meuse river. Tankdestroyer, who animated lots of community models was working on an ambitious project:
Resizing all the ridiculously oversized CoH models to realistic size.
Unfortunately he left the community before he could finish it. These are two of them.
The original Marder III model in CoH was ridiculously oversized, and so the community Grille model, which used the Relic Marder as base.
Tankdestroyer not only resized both, he also corrected a lot of stuff, like the the muzzlebreak of the Pak40 and the Hull of the Grille.
compare with this one: Moddb.com
I gave the new Grille a new paintjob, authentic Disc Pattern of the Grilles which were used by Kampfgruppe Peiper.
Just one problem now: Compared with all other ingame models, they are really tiny...
Very good idea , hope that someone resized the rest of the Vehicles
So,the other models are oversized,too?
The size doesn't really matter as long as the firepower of the unit is as realistic as always was ;)
yes, almost all ingame vehicles/tanks are about 130 - 150% bigger than in reality.
I never noticed them being oversized, hmm.
Especially open topped vehicles. Another striking example:
Have a look at the german Geschuetzwagen H39. In reality:
Tankove_muzeum.sweb.cz
And ingame: Gamereplays.org
compared to the size of the soldiers, the ingame version offers more space than a Hummel. Its gun is even big as a 150mm. ;) The M18 Hellcat is quite enormous, too.
I like this resize :)
Wow that is ridiculous, one of my friends was saying that the vehicles needed resizing and I didn't beleive him, but this is just insane.
This is great news to the modding community. It adds to the authenticity of BOTB.
Size really matters because very few can do this. Gun values I can do myself.
Thank you, Halftrack.
The Sherman - Chaffee was one that showed best how insanely huge some tanks are.
Is it possible to use the new textures on the existing oversized Marder/Grille? Because they'll seem pretty puny ingame compared to all the other armor :/
sure, uvw is still the same
Do you have planned to share these models?
