Wow, a beautiful map. How long did it take you to make this?

eh, it's pretty big too... um, maybe eight-to-ten hours. I haven't really added the main objectives and trigger elements yet, though.

the hardest part was adding in the railroad line, which functionally extends the supply lines from one city to the next. if you can capture and hold the railroad it's a great way to extend your supply network as you fight your way across the map.

typically when I work on a map I try to find three-to-five historical references and try to make it as close as I can.

I really wanted to add in those hills and ridges, because in some cases they had fairly sharp escarpments and could really give the defenders a big advantage.

the hill top flags featured here are the same as the new village flags - except that they don't generate money and have negligible supply range. what they do offer, in exchange, is a very high detection range that isn't really matched by any other capturable building in the game.

Description

I do plan on including the original SP campaign maps in the next upload. but I also have thousands of units to update, buildings to consolidate, and ability name definitions to correct.

now that I've settled for keeping the original SP maps as close to the original game as I can... it makes it easier to give people what they want on that particular point.

but, looking back on these maps I found that I wanted to make alternate versions for some of them. of all the original maps in the game El Alamein seemed to do the best job of at least -sorta- looking like the historical terrain.

but then I thought to myself, well... I want to add in a railway line that actually enhances your supply lines. there were some important terrain features that I wanted to add into the game: Kidney Hill, Miteiriya Ridge, Ruweisat Ridge, and the El Taqa plateau.

I've also figured out a way to use game triggers to mimic British historical deception techniques. Germans can engage a seemingly helpless truck, only to have it transform into a tank and start fighting back. it's a pretty simple trick: if the truck has a state of being attacked, it gets removed with a trigger, and then a replacement tank gets put in the exact same location.
