as the war in South East Asia progressed it was decided that Allied fighters should not have the three colored roundel. the inner red circle was removed because it created problems distinguishing from Japanese and Allied aircraft. although this wasn't planned earlier-- it makes sense to reskin Indian fighters. Australian aircraft will look very similar-- except that they'll have a white center instead of a light blue one.
