Asimov exists! Mod

"A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law." - Isaac Asimov The bots will not attack you unless you hit them, shooting from a distance is ok as it can't "protect its own existence" they can't flee because an order made by another human has overridden them. Yo, I love the concept, but this conflicts with the "Alien ignores Amanda" mod; both mods require you to replace the same file so I don't see a way to install them at the same time. Could you maybe offer a work-around?
Wow! That is allot!
I just didn't like the robots meta in the game & found it distracted from the core player vs Alien gameplay, they are not scary, they're just cheap filler. Let's face it the game is not called "annoying androids" & if it were nobody would have brought it!
I would rather just run through the robot sections & get to what I perceive as the "good bits". I consider this mod as related to others like "Alien Ignores Amanda" that let people tailor the experience to their liking.
On the topic of Asimov & his three laws, *spoiler* if you have read all of his books you know that it is the creation (and evolution or maybe corruption?) of these laws the ultimately results in the creation of an illuminati type organisation (The second foundation) that not only justifies killing but also the sacrifice of entire worlds or even systems for the "greater good" of not allowing humanity to "come to harm" even at its own misguided hands.
The way most computers work these days I'm sure robots would be deadly in real life and would give new meaning to "blue screen of death".
I am a big fan of Asimov and his iRobot series of short stories. However, the android in the original Alien film is ultimately hostile. With Alien Isolation being a sequel to that film, it makes sense that they are hostile in the game.
Android from Alien was and Weyland Yutani model androids in Isolation are made by Segson what's the point of Non Weyland androids being hostile towards someone from Ripley's bloodline? More so why Torrens crew android is not hostile towards Amanda even though WY does everything to cover up a huge **** up at the station?
Makes no difference, which company it was, it establishes the fact that in the Alien universe has more realistic androids, because of the simple fact that programming can be changed, and there's one thing Asimov's idealistic rules ignore, if a means of making a new weapon exists, it will always be made.
Not only will androids kill humans, there will be militarised androids that are designed to be as lethal as possible.
As to why Samuels, the Weyland Yutani android can't be reprogrammed, and the Seegson ones can. WY androids are autonomous, independant AI capable of, making their own decisions, like selecting Amanda for the mission, and would need sophisticated, and direct reprogramming, by equally sophisticated WY hardware, not the primitive Seegson ones.
Unlike Ashe, from the first film, which was placed on the Nostromo to retrieve an Alien specimen, Samuels received the assignment of retrieving a recovered flight recorder. A routine mission.
It was only while they were already travelling to Sevastapol, that WY became aware of the Alien presence, and acquired the station.
Working Joes are designed to be centrally controlled, by APPOLO,an equally primitive design, which accepted WY reprogramming, with the legal change of station ownership, it was then a simple matter to send out new orders to the working Joes.
If Samuels hadn't died before the Ownership change, was discovered, it's possible he would also have become hostile.
Of course none of that changes the mods purpose, to turn off the hostility, it just means Asimov's Laws are dumb, and clearly unworkable in either the Alien Universe, or our real one.
Asimov's 3 laws of robotics, made some sort of sense when Asimov wrote them, but that was a hundred years ago, long before computers existed. Now they are obviously unworkable.
