Ashes is a Post-apocalypse themed total conversion for the GZDoom engine. It combines old school build style level design and Doom style action with a twist of Stalker and Fallout.

A quick chat about some recent events and a look at what the future of the Ashes universe will be.

Hey scavs,

It's been about 6 months since we dropped Ashes here on ModDb and you might be wondering "what's been going on with you guys?". Well we'll fill you in below, but first we'd like to get some sentimental nonsense out of the way.

Firstly, we've been very happy with the reception so far. It's surpassed our expectations, especially since the standalone was thrown together almost as an afterthought. We managed to snag a prestigious cacoward in December (which we weren't expecting) and somehow snagged 10th place in moddbs MOTY 2021 (which we really weren't expecting). Thanks to everyone who advocated for us, we sincerely appreciate it.

Secondly, there have been a lot of people inquiring about financially supporting us, and while we're very flattered, we aren't yet in a place where we feel comfortable asking for your money. So no, in the immediate future there won't be a Patreon or a Steam release. However, if you have some extra cash just absolutely burning a hole in your pocket, why not jump over to Primevals bandcamp and get yourself a copy of the soundtrack? John is a very talented guy who deserves your support and the Doom community is lucky to have him.

I mean, have a listen:

Absolute banger. Anyway, on to some new stuff.

Ashes: The map pack

Experience a linear version of the afterglow campaign with all of the boring talky bits and vehicle sections stripped out.

Play it straight vanilla:

Play it with Brutal Doom, the classic standby:

Enjoy the idea of getting your head slammed in a car door? Play it with Hideous Destructor:

Play it with... the ashes weapon pack (lol):

Play it with any gameplay mod you want! (Disclaimer: we can't possibly test compatibility with everything so your experience may vary!).

Episode 1 has also received some bug fixes/tweaks, and there's a new version of the weapon pack. Head on over to the downloads page to check this stuff out. Let us know if you come across any more bugs.

What's next?

In the short to mid term we're hoping to get another patch for Episode 2 out, as well as a monsters only pack. At that point we'll consider Ep2 "complete" (barring major bug fixes).

In the longer term there's a DLC campaign in the works by another team member, but we can't provide a concrete date on when that'll arrive. Here are a few concepts Vostyok is workshopping for this:

example3

In terms of Ashes Episode 3: we have plans, but haven't started work yet. Most of the team are a bit burned out with Ashes and are pursuing other projects to recharge. Did you know that Vos is working on a DLC for Hedon?

This wasn't a joke.

Until next time.

I was very impressed by Ashes 2063, and loved what I'd played of it,
but I took out all the raiders before I'd taken on any kind of mission involving their destruction (I think it was when they told me to turn back in a sewer or something and I didn't want to, then I decided that was a decent time to let them go hostile and kill them all, including their boss)
then I completed another mission or two and met the Baron (I think that's what he was called), and he scolded me for killing them all, and said some other stuff.
And now I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to do next.
Where do I go now?
I also sold my mount before I knew about the races.
Did I softlock the game or something? Am I stuck or stupid or both?

The baron should have given you the key to leave. You just need to go back to the raider compound and find your bike.

Can you give me directions to my bike?
The compound is huge.
Also, once I get my bike, will it just tell me where to go next?
-EDIT-
Never mind, I found it. This submarine level is awesome.
Why does my journal look all f***ed-up?

Try the Hud Scale option. See if that makes a difference. And the journal is scaled to resolution but not aspect ratio. There is probably a way to fix this but I have no idea. Lol. Enjoy the ending XD

Great job on the project! Maybe you can put Ashes on the ZOOM Platform with an extra episode, like the REKKR guy did.

That crossbow reminds me Rage. At first I was not much interested in using it, but later I find it fun to use while mixing different bolts types, standard arrows for silent elimination, arrows with dynamite to explode last bandits, charged with electricity for shooting boxes with fuses. I only did not like much poison/temporary control arrows.

Sorry to ask for a hint here but I couldn't find another thread. In Ashes Aftermath can someone tell me where the primers you're supposed to get for Riggs are at? They are supposed to be on the Flooded District level but I have been through 3 times, killed everything, and found all secrets... but no "box of primers" Help! Absolutely great game by the way!

Guns store at flooded district. Head to the right from laundry, up the ladder, to the left across the flood and here we are. Search for central closet in storage room

Absolutely love this mod. It's one of the best things I've ever played. The atmosphere, gameplay, world building, dialogue and other parts of this mod are just brilliant for what they are. Thank you so much for crafting this gem of a mod.
