Most muskets fired a .58 Caliber round, not .577. Even then, that picture shows it as being a whole round (with a metal cartridge and everything). Is that round there just for some kind of comparison, or is that what the musket will be firing?

No dude during the war they fired the .58 minie ball which looks like more like a modern bullet and they did not use muskets they used the springfield 1861 model rifle

Muskets and rifles at that time fired ball ammunition. There was no such thing as casings back then.

Half right adkinsnoob, they actually fired Minie bullets, not balls. The Minie bullet was shaped like a bullet and had two grooves (since the muskets used then actually had rifling) picture: Relicman.com

Because the Civil War was the first war that actually used these rifled muskets (Which were soooo much more accurate than previous ones) while keeping the old fashioned tactics, it was more casualty heavy than many other wars.

Just some info. Also, the gun model is very good!
