Alyss Source
This project is an attempt to remake and re-imagine, the game “American Mcgee’s Alice”, from the now rather dated engine, to that of the source engine, and in the process expand upon and improve the overall feel and depth to the game.
The aim is to remake the entire game to today’s standards, expanding levels to be bigger and more atmospheric, reworking the very basic cut scenes into engaging cinematic to drive the story forward, introduce physics as both a weapon and solution to various puzzles, and to bring the graphics to present day quality/detail expectations.
While doing this we also plan to expand theme already present in the game and are open to ideas about putting in what was left out of the original game.
Examples of expansion would be the completion of the deck of cards, where previously you would only see the low numbers you will now fight all numbers and even the Knaves, as well as improving upon the number of variations in NPC models so you see fewer of the same character over and over.
All while keeping the feel and dark tone of the original game.
This is of course a mod and will require both Half-Life 2 Orange Box, and a copy of "American Mcgee's Alice"
Things kept intact.
Almost all original levels*
All original enemies
All original NPC's
All Original Characters both Good and Evil.
All weapons.
Thinks planned to change.
More variations of each enemy.
Larger / Expanded levels.
New Puzzles/Re worked puzzles.
Re worked cinematic sequences.
* indicates there is a discussion of altering the last few levels as the originals always felt lacking in any drive but a hard fight to the final boss.
Hello all, sorry for the lack of updates and news.
This is mainly down to two things, first of all the main work is going into Journeyman and secondly as the sequal to American Mcgee's Alice was announced it is now questionable what engine should be used.
The adverts on the Alice site mention the latest unreal engine, and as such we are waiting to see if that engine is confirmed/thusly becomes modable it may be more suitable and a better idea to do the mod on the engine for the sequal.
This doesnt mean work on the mod will stop, but does mean that it means we can only go so far, concepting, building models/characters ect, mapping is out of the question right now.
Anyway I hope that makes that clear and we hope to have something to show you soon.
P.S anyone interested in helping concept please PM me.
The project is now activley recruiting members to re-design/re-concept.
Hoping I can help out on this. Null, have you at all worked with zbrush? I have NO 3d skills whatsoever but the tutorials I've seen on zbrush might allow me to mess around and really flesh out some designs for you. Like using littlebigplanet's molding to create, but more advanced.
This is alive at all?
The whole things is on hold at the moment for several reasons.
Namely the anouncement of the sequal opening the "what if we can buid it on that engine" question.
And a mixture of real life (unstable job situation) and lack of help to get this under way.
Other than concepting/designing its all down to the engine that will be used (and thus the new game).
Making an unofficial remake of an older game for the same engine that the sequel will be made on could bring more attention to your mod from the copyright holders, and as such the mod will be foxed faster than you can say "We are very late indeed" :P
AH but as the original game is no longer in print and I have yet to see them announce any sort of re-release, remake of the original it cant hurt their sales in any way.
and 3 words.
Black Mesa Source. :D.
Thanks for the comment though.
I'm just saying, you have to be careful, especially with EA. :P
I run a website devoted to modding Trespasser, a game owned by EA as well. We've never seen what EA would do to any attempt to remake the game since no one has been successful. However, they don't seem to mind if you hack the original games and make that better :P
Anyway, Alice is awesome and I wish you luck!
:D once again thankyou for your comment it is a very valid and sometimes unfortunatly true reality.
I just have to keep hoping :D.
As for your Tresspasser stuff what are you working on ? the game is classic if not a bit on the bat **** insane-hard to play side.
TresCom is a community that focuses on creating utilities, tools, patches, levels and campaigns for the game. Personally I am working on a mod set on Isla Nublar (the island from the first movie). Other members are working on other things as well. One, BigRed, created a patch called ATX which fixes a lot of the glitches the game has, including jump consistency, allows Raptors to jump, enables new functions for the modder to use (like rain, custom custscenes, and animations). Check it out at TresCom.org :P We're prepping to switch servers soon.
Thanks for the link I will have a look
