Making a world model using a Doom sprite as reference, and then making a crappy view model from it. I recorded this for future reference in case I forget some part of the process, the videos may be useful to someone out there. First video is making a world model from zero to in game, second is using it to make a simple animated view model, the end result sucks but it shows how it's done. Blender addon that displays key presses doesn't show some presses sometimes, mainly axis buttons when scaling/rotating. I skipped a couple small steps like running the texture through a padding plugin in Gimp, aligning UVs to pixel centers, and small last minute texture cleanups. When there's an important setting I waggle the mouse next to it for a bit.

I absolutely love this mod! It puts doom into quake far better than any other mod. The only thing that would make this better is for the lightning gun to have the model and sound like the doom plasma rifle, and the inclusion of the BFG 9000.

hello friend a question ... can you convert or export the enemies of Quake1 somehow or do a mod for Quake3 ... or do you know where you could get help? I have Quake3 on iPhone and I really like Quake1. to play it on any map

Sorry for late reply!

You want to convert Q1 character models to Q3, right? I haven't done that, but I imagine it would take some extra work before exporting to MD3. If I remember correctly Q3 models are separated into several parts to allow them to rotate freely, but the animation is vertex-based like in Q1. So what you'd likely need to do is import a Q1 model into Blender with the MDL import-export script, duplicate it however many parts a Q3 char has, make separate body parts out of those duplicates by deleting unneeded geometry and filling the holes, and then export it with the MD3 exporter found here:

Just tried with Arcane Dimensions. Some weapons haven't changed - as rocket launcher or railgun

I guess they've replaced more models in the most recent AD release. I'll test it next week and make a new fix.

A mod called Hunter's Moon, which is a coop quake III in Doom mod, made me think how cool it would be to have a doom mod with 3d models and fancier maps with the gameplay of quake 3 arena but in doom style. Something along the lines of "Doom Arena". I was thinking I'd want the weapons to still have that classic look, and looking at these they would be perfect. With zandronum already having a solid base for multiplayer, i.e. the gamemodes, slapping some solid models and good quake III/doom like/inpired maps on top with a little bit of scripting magic to flavor things just right. I think we could have a pretty amazing multiplayer doom mod. I personally don't have much experience with modding or at least the really technical things. I really want to learn though and this might be my start. Sorry for posting about a doom mod in a quake mod page.

I really dig what you've done. Your Doom weapon renditions almost look like the sprite counterparts when played on a low resolution :)

Do you ever plan on checking out the Alpha Doom sprites and making sprites out of those? (Or possibly the alternative BFG that John Romero published 2 years ago)

Quake doesn't really have anything similar to the BFG. A rifle with a bayonet alt fire would be cool though, if that's possible to mod in I could make a model.

I don't know much about adding custom weapons to Quake. Maybe it could be like a weak railgun, replacement for shotgun? The rifle I mean. Not sure what's the best way of communicating on here is, maybe email me at ragalimo*gmail? We'd have to decide on how it would work before I can start on the model/animation.
